Wicker Man

WOW what a movie. We saw the original 70s movie last night. : Yeah, we loved it but how incredibly bizarre! I couldn't believe all the surreal nudity (jumping over a bonfire in Stonehenge Jr) and the sexual overtones. And, OMG we didn't know whether to laugh or cringe; ie. was it intentionally so "in your face" or was it meant to be serious.

And, the ending...OMG I seriously did NOT know what to expect. Dh called it, though.

I KNOW the ending w/Nicholas Cage HAS to be different.
Renting it tomorrow night....

I actually wasn't thrilled with the Nick Cage version. I thought it was going to be better than it was. Maybe it's just me though.

Plus, I felt the need to inform nearly everyone watching it with us how utterly off-base it was as a representation of a pagan/goddess worship religion.. so everyone got quite annoyed

Yeah it was strange to see the note at the beginning of the original saying thanks to the Scottish people for providing information on their cultural beliefs. And, then we see naked chicks cavorting around the countryside giggling while ominous music plays for the poor dumb police schmuck & masked people pop in & out of the screen....Gotta be more to paganism than that?!?!?
But, in the original at least, I do feel we were led to believe it was more a cult of the psychotic Lord Summerisle than any "real" religion. I think.

Haven't seen the remake, but if the ending has been changed from the original, then wah.....? It can't be Wicker Man without the original ending!!

There is a lot that is different in the Nic Cage version.

For some funny bits, check this out:

irreverant remixing of the film

Warning: may be spoilers, if you ever choose to actually rent this movie.
