I am.

Do you have a link to your portfolio? I'd love to see it.

Good luck with the business venture.

I am too. Have my first paid shoot (eek) this coming week! I used to do weddings years ago but well, that was years ago! I have all new gear now and a new direction so I'm really excited.

I'm trying to get started in photography, but I'm not very good yet. I can't afford professional equipment until I know I can make money from it, so right now I'm using an Olympus SP510UZ. It's not bad, and I'm learning a lot from it. I hope to offer my services as an amateur photographer soon, that way I can learn as I go, and people can get cheap photos, as long as they realize the quality isn't professional yet.

So far I have no human photos yet, but I do have some stuff up at http://limetortuga.deviantart.com/ Nothing special, but I think I'm getting better.

Can I just share this short story with y'all of the time that I left my Olympus on my desk in my office to go nurse my youngest, and as I lay there with my boob in her mouth, I thought to myself, "I should really move my camera, Sami, my boy in the middle, not much older than baby, might grab it off of my desk and...", eldest daughter walks in to tell me that "Sami has your camera, and he put it in the dogs water dish....", and as I think to myself, I hope there isn't any water in there... she says "and there's water in it." ARG!!! So a dh's best friend offers to buy me a camera, yay! It arrives in the mail and dh calls me at work to ask if a Nikon is a good camera, !. I arrive home filled with excitement only to find an.... idiot camera. I was grateful, yes, because I had nothing else. Thanks to the powers that be, a year later, I could afford a new Olympus EOS, and it has been good to me. Most of the pics I take right now are of family. A captive subject, yes, but a good one! I haven't posted a portfolio on line but I do have some pics on my MySpace http://www.myspace.com/samsarah72 , which I have been neglecting, but thanks to the encouragement of some concerned friends, I am going to start carrying my camera with me wherever I go, and start an online portfolio. I am currently working on a deck of children's alphabet cards, and I would really like to lend my services to homebirthing ladies in the future. A friend of mine is due mid May, so she will be my first lady, I am looking forward to it. I also figure that if I can find a group of like minded folks I will be more inclined to share! So I am joining in!

I used to be really into photography and well now I'm trying to get back into it.

We recently bought a Canon digital Rebel Xti and i'm in love. However I'm still trying to remember the photography skills which used to be so natural, and trying to figure out how to do photography without the toddler jumping in front of the camera (the baby is normally on my back)
I've also been thinking I need to set up a portfolio of sorts, if for nothing else just to humor myself.

I'm trying to get back into it however, and hope to do some photography for people outside my family soon.

Samantha I added you on my myspace

I am!

I was a fine arts major in school, and my emphasis was photography. I lost my darkroom privelidges when I graduated (two years ago), and I really, really miss it! I've been working on getting better at photoshop since I've only got digital to work with now.

I've never been drawn to commercial photography, I mostly take pictures of my family and my life, but recently I've been doing some wedding portraits and engagement portraits for good friends, and I've loved that!

I've been into polaroid photography lately. I've dabbled into digital but thats DH's thing. Hes done lots of freelance stuff but its mostly his hobby. I've actually just started using his camera this week. His camera is so intimidating but im learning how to use it and what all the different lenses are for. I actually love it and am enjoying using it.

I am inspired by you ladies....what a breath of fresh air!

I have bought myself a Canon Rebel Xt and have been having a blast with it. I have some of my stuff posted on www.mm72873.etsy.com. I do carry my camera everywhere. I cannot rave enough about digital photography and it's flexibility in both practicing taking pictures (without the cost of film) and ability to e-mail....save in discs.

I also do paintings, yet, photography allows me to do it, even when I'm busy.....whipping out my paints when my 2 year old is around is asking for trouble....have not had much time to do that. But I try to do whatever feel right for that moment. Sometimes I feel like collage, sometimes like paintings, sometimes I just sketch.....I also do some journaling and feel in some way they are all inter-related.

Would love to get some ideas how to start your own business in photography. I did some "boudour" photos for a friend of mine and we turned it into a great calendar for her husband.......I feel that I can do that easily....but the equipment stuff is what baffles me, where to even begin....

too much blahbing.......have a great day....keep posting those sites....I love to see them.

Branwyn, your pictures are just as you describe them. They are great and I enjoyed both slideshows.

Me. I'm not a pro and don't ever plan to be, but I am a hobbyist for sure. I recently bought a Nikon D80 and have acquired some nice lenses. It's fun, but addicting! I'm enjoying seeing all of your work!

Me too

I love my digital Canon, although due to its size, the camera I usually have in tow with me (in my purse) everywhere I go is a little 5MP point and shoot.

I want to have a Nikon D80 in my hot little hands by the end of this year though. I lust over this camera big time.

Lovely photos everyone!

I wanted the Nikon D80 too, but went for the Canon for price.....you will have a blast! I just love DSLR's for the fact that you do not "miss" the pictures as you do with all othe point and shoots......so much fun.

most of the nikons and canons have similarities between generations, i find the differences are small and pretty personal (for example i like the way nikons feel in my hand better than canons, etc)

I just bought the Canon Rebel also! (XTI?) I love it...I am mostly into babies and kids' candid shots...black and white mostly..everyone in my family keeps telling me to make a business of it..to build a website and go for it, with birth announcements and such..I just feel like it's better to be a hobby for me right now. I was an art major also, but graphic design..how out of the loop I feel after being pregnant/and or with kids for the last 8 years..photoshop is awesome, I still use it but not an expert. If anyone with the rebel knows the best way to use the sports feature for no-blur action shots, bring it on, please! I am still learning but have had good shots and bad shots.

You actually don't need to buy a webpage...I put up my prints for sale at http://www.etsy.com....it's cheap and I love how easy poeple could use paypal to buy my images. I don't make a lot, but it's out there for people to see.....plus the site is FANTASTIC for handmade stuff...I always buy all my presents there......there are people on it from all over the world....see a sample of one of my photo pages:
