Land Before Time movies?

Has anyone seen these? Would you recommend them for a four year old? For anyone? Ds is recently interested in dinosaurs, and when I mentioned it to my high school students, they all said he HAS to see these movies. Apparently there are a gazillion of them and they've been around since my high schoolers were kids! Are they interesting? Educational? Something fun for a rainy day? Won't drive mom and dad crazy? Thanks for the feedback!

My kids LOVED that movie - but only the original one. It was such a hit that they quickly made a bunch of sequels but they are not nearly as good, in our opinion. Actually, that movie was such a beloved staple when my kids were young that it is one of the few movies I just can't part with. My youngest ds (now 9) happened to find it in the basement last week and has resurrected it. I actually found all three of my guys (now 16, 13 and 9) sitting quietly in the family room, munching popcorn and watching "The Land Before Time". They kept saying things like "Oh, I love this part!" Nearly made me cry!

The Land Before Time films are shown regularly on the cartoon channel here. My son, who is nearly 3 really enjoys them. Nothing harmful about them, although the T-Rex's can be a little ferocious at times, they're not scary imo.

Hope this helps

Peace

My 3 year old LOVES it. I think they are all good but the original is the best one. They are coming out with a new one in a couple days. They aren't scary, although t-rex could be a little frightening. I enjoyed them when I was a kid and now my DS will too!

yes, both my three year old and six year old dds like them-especially the most recent one-something about the flying dinosaurs? They especially dig the Flip Flap and Fly song.

My kids loved them when they were little. The first one is the only really great one. (The mom dinosaur dies though, and leaves Littlefoot alone. Some might be sensitive to that. It is the basis for the story though so they can't really avoid it.) After the second one they got pretty corny, even my kids thought so.

They are cute and fun. My little guy has seen them since about 2 1/2 and at over 4 he still enjoys them. It has been a while but he saw a commercial for the new one and was excited.

I wouldn't call them educational, but I can't think of any reason I would restrict them.

I'm 32 and they came out when I was right at 15 yrs old so they've been around approx 17 years

I know this so well cause I was dating my dh at the time and he worked for Pizza Hut and they had the Land Before Time hand puppets that are the vinyl type plastic and I have 2 of them he brought me home when we were teens!

We love them here! The kids all like the tinysauruses one too!

I just saw a commercial the other day that a new one is coming out.

My dd has loved them all for years (she's 8 now). I only liked the original. I have an "issue" with studios taking popular established characters and furthering a series which is sub-par. JMO.

Also, if you are a stickler for "correct" terminology, you might be a little annoyed if Jr. starts calling dinosaurs "sharp tooth" or "long neck."

But there are always songs in each of the movies and cute characters which your child may like.

These movies came out when I was young and I love them. Nothing wrong with them at all, imo.

Well- IMO I was between 5-7 when I saw it and I was scared of the T.Rex. Like- really scared. If your child is sensitive I wouldn't recommend it.

Dh and I actually saw the origional in the theater on a date.

12 y.o. dd watched the video over- and over- and over. She adored it. I think we have #1, #2 and #7.

Thanks for the replies! Ds isn't particularly sensitive to "Scary" things if it's on the small screen; he would most likely just think T-rex is "Strong" and "Cool!"

I might try to find the first one (rentable?). Anything for a change of pace from "Heffalump Halloween!"

My admittedly very sensitive 4.5 yr old was terrified of the T-Rex and absolutely agonized over the Mom dinosaur's death at the beginning. Needless to say we didn't get very far into the movie. I know other kids her age that have no problem with it (and other things that frighten/sadden her), though. Good luck!

Remembering how much my now 8 year old loved these movies I recorded a few of them last week as my 4 year old hadn't seen any of them yet. She loves them--she does shriek a little at the t-rex scenes but in a playful not truly scared way (but she is going through an I want to see a scary movie--I like them phase--not sure where that came from). I've been getting constant requests for the dinosaur movie--from both of my girls.
