I never thought people were so misinformed. Yesterday while I was at work, a small county hospital mind you, I was talking with our CEO & some other co-workers. My CEO was asking me when the baby was due & it was for sure a boy. I said yes it's a boy. He said "Well you'll have some added expence with this one, with the circ & all". I said "Oh, actually we are not having him circ'ed." He then said "Oh, I didn't think you had a choice. I thought that all boys were circ'ed." !!!!!!!!! What is up that? A CEO of a hospital who has been in the medical profession for 20 some odd years didn''t think that the parents had the right to say no to circ. That it was just done no matter what!! HELLO!!! You always have a choice, it is your son, & it is your son's penis, not the hospitals' or doctors'.

I politely told him that we didn't think it was neccessay & why mess with something that is already perfect. He left it at that.

I was just dumbfounded!!

That is so scary being that he was the CEO of the hospital People can be so out-of-touch with society and reality sometimes

I know that my MIL wasn't given a choice. They put her under for her births (WTF?) and when she woke up they gave her an already cut baby. I am sure she could have fought if she'd known better, but they probably would have done it anyway. Sounds like that CEO is stuck in 1975.

I'm always amazed at the people who think doctors are in charge of them and their bodies and babies at a hospital or office. The first thing I tell everyone who asks for birth, breastfeeding and baby advice - YOU CAN ALWAYS SAY NO!

Same for my MIL, she was in the hospital for a week, and on day three they took Jeff and circ'd him without asking Needless to say, she's quite pro-circ (which I take to mean "pro-HER-parenting style" as she doesn't EVER want to think she made a 'wrong' choice with her parenting choices). This leaks out in statements like: you know that I just read that you are more likely to get AIDS if your intact? or My friend (who is a nurse) has said that if you girls knew how hard it was to clean an intact old man, you would have circumcised your boys (refering to me and her friends daughter)

This level of ignorance never ceases to amaze me.

That's so sad how ignorant he was.... I bet you gave him a LOT to think about though!

love and peace.

That is so sad that the CEO of a hospital didn't realize that boys don't have to be cut. I understand as a parent... but come on! It is his job to be knowledgable (geeze i can never spell that) about medical procedures, what is and isn't required. Even if he did get his lic. 30 years ago, he is suppose to keep everything up to date. So sad. I bet he is the same guy going around telling mothers that their babies HAVE to have the eye ointment and and Vit K, that they don't have a choice. :

The CEO didn't know this? I would get some information to give to him about it and hopefully they will start educating parents on the facts!

Yup, my DH was the first in his family to be cut because they just lined them up from the nursery when it was time and did it. His parents didn't try to do anything about it : I mean not change it, but sue or something. I didn't know there were choices about circ, vax and other stuff until I became pg and started reading. Before that I thought it just all automated or something : I'm glad I educated myself before anyone got hurt, all mine are intact

Wow, at least you filled that CEO in! Does he really think that every single male in this country (born in a hospital) is circed?!? That's pretty scary :

Ew. That is scary.
