Pregnant at 48 - yikes!!!!

Hello there, I'm a 48 year old, 4th time pregnant mom living in Texas. I found your site through a freebee Mothering magazine in the waiting room of my midwife's Birthing Center. This will be my first birth in the US - I am originally from Europe and had my other 3 children there (2 in the UK and the last one at home in the Netherlands) 17, 16 and 13 years ago. I've known my husband for 25 years and we've been married for nearly 19 years. I'm very interested to see how my pregnancy will go at my "advanced" age, I'm hoping for an uncomplicated vaginal delivery, waterbirth maybe?, at our local birthing center. If I can keep away from hospitals here I shall be very happy.

Any moms in their late 40's out there?

Thank you all for your greetings!

I have to ask Mashenka: What was that question? Please don't make me go all the way back through the posts from months ago

Hello and welcome. Congratulations on you surprise pregnancy. I'm in TX too. In fact, I think you may be a friend of a friend! Are you birthing at Nativiti?

: yeah, too many posts. I realized after I wrote that it made sense in my own head thread, but to no one else! I introduced myself and said I was nearly forty and thinking about #3, wondering how many other mamas were continuing to have babies into their forties.

Hello and welcome! I'm only 40 and I'm done having babies as far as I know, but my mom had her last at 45 if that counts for anything. Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

Hi there! Yes... my notoriety must be spreading... are you a UU or a neighbor of my friend Gill. Just a couple of guesses...

I've made it through to 23 weeks.

Despite the fact that when I called the nurse of my Ob/Gyn at 16 weeks to report that I was pregnant/beg for an appt. she told me I was more than 50% likely to miscarry, even when I reiterated that I thought I was already in the second trimester! That's why I'm going to a Birthing Center for my pregnancy care - with medical personnel like that nurse "on my side" who needs enemies?!

Thanks, we feel blessed. My paternal grandma had her last child (of 4) at 46 and my maternal great-grandmother had her last child (of 4) at 44 - so it may run in the family, and on both sides. I'm sure if we were to look further back we would all find that numerous ancesters had children well into their 40s.
