Couch to 5k: Who's in? - Page 6

I've been finding tight spandex shorts are great for holding the jiggle to a minimum.
Wk7 started! I was tough but only bc I pushed myself. For long periods of running I lower it but I did most at 5.0 (usually 4.7) and gave myself an very slight incline of 1 for several minutes. Increased speed to 5.2 and 5.5 during minute 14 to 20. Had to take an extra minute still before I could sit and stretch after my cool down. Now, I get to rest for the wked!!!

Never thought of the tight spandex!

I was SO disillusioned when none of my running shorts fit postpartum. I am used to running in shorts and a sports bra... now I can't imagine showing my belly (at least until the stretch marks fade) and my shorts don't fit. Come to think of it, neither do my sports bras. I am in rough shape!

But on the plus side, one of my friends is a speedwalker, so at least I will have a buddy until the relaxin subsides and I can run again. My midwife said to try again at 8 weeks, so only 2 more weeks!

Sounds like the rest of you are doing awesome!

MamaAidan - Welcome! There is nothing more motivating than sparkling new running shoes... maybe once I make that solid 20 min, I'll make that my reward

Not long, now, PSB! Getting the walking in will help you get ready for the running and make it that much easier!

Way to go LM!!

I have my 1st 28 minute run tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping to be able to do it outside, even if it is slower.

I found a really great website that helps me track my runs. But, I can't remember if I posted about it here already. Oh well, at the risk of being redundant it is: http://mapmyrun.com It's supercool and uses Google maps!

Hey Mamas,

Glad you all seem to be doing well. I finished up week 4 today. I'm glad I have this program going as it was about the only happy thing this week (dd has a head cold along with her 4 molars coming in, ds has a stomach bug and dh quit his new job to start his own business.) I can't wait for the BIG 20 minute run next week.

You're almost there! It isn't as hard as you think. The program has really prepared you for that long run, even if you don't think so. It was a total leap of faith for me, and I was surprised at how easy it was.

I go for 28 minutes, today. Wish me luck! I'm going to try to get outside, but we'll see.

28 minutes down! I ran outside, so was super slow, but I did it. I'll work on my outside pace when I get to a full 30 minutes and graduate from the program.

Keep going mamas! If I can do it, anybody can!

YEAH BEC!!!

OhMel~ Where in OH? I am over by Cedar Pointe. I know what it is like for DH to quit his job and start his own business too. We are starting yr 3. Good luck to him!!!

OhMel- I just typed in a long reply and lost it with one swift click of the wrong computer key in the nighttime darkness. AAAAAGGGGHHHH!

Let me try again.

We're going through some of the same in our house, with my husband unemployed and taking a certificate course to start a home business eventually. It's stressful! I'm a graduate student working (yeah right) on a... what's the word? d... dissertation! Haven't seen it in 8 months, so I'm forgetting all of the terminology. My daughter was up 5 times between 10 and 3:30 tonight. That would be every 45-90 minutes. This is a nightly occurrance... see my new thread to give suggestions

My shoes have NOT yet arrived despite my purchase online on the 5th. AND I'm signed up for a 10k, which I'll probably just plan on walking, for May 6th. Maybe I'll run a mile. I can't run before I get the shoes because my old shoes are way too old to run in. Good hikers now, not good runners. I'll injure myself. My mind wants my body to work out but all of the forces of the universe seem to be conspiring to glue me to the couch. Is it all in my head? I don't think so... Will I ever be able to get back into shape???

Oh, and Bec, I just located my spandex shorts, but those are from my marathon-training (I actually ran one in '97! Slow, but I did it!) and pre-baby in-shape running days! I don't have the nerve to try to pull them onto my body yet. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe I should try in case I need to get new ones so that I can use those shoes when they do land on the doorstep.

I'm off to try to get a bit more shut-eye before it's time to really get up for the day.

Yawn.

Ugh! Yesterday did not go well. I kept needing to walk. I think I was running too fast when I was running, though. So, I'll be able to adjust next time.

Hey Mamas,

Thanks for the encouragement. I have faith in DH so I'm hoping things go well this time. I did my week5/run 1 yesterday and ran slow and did very well.

SunCB -- I'm in Cleveland. I love Sandusky, it seems like a nice place to live. Maybe we could meet at a race sometime -- are you planning on doing any 5ks?

MamaAidan -- sounds like your plate is full too. Definitely wait for the shoes -- they made a tremendous difference in how my knees feel.

MsuMomma -- Welcome! This is such a great program and such supportive ladies.

Bec -- Running slower than I want to definitely helps me make it to the end. I've been compensating by running full speed the last few minutes.

No runs around here. I am preparing for the ATM (Army Ten Miler) in Washington DC on 07 OCT.

Are you on any of the Yahoo Groups like NoOH NINO (though I am now part of the Toledo NINO that was just started) or Cleveland EC?

Smiles,
Lisa Marie

I'm part of the local homeschool group on yahoo and was previously a part of the local AP group but that got a bit too catty for me. The NINO groups look interesting -- my dd (14 months) is just starting to use a stroller (though half the time when I take it I end up pushing ds (4.5 yrs) and backpacking dd).

Well, let me know if you want to do a run sometime this summer.

W7 D3 was very tough today. Not sure if I need to repeat 1 day or not. I was on a different tread mill though.

I know the NINO group got together a few times for the zoo. Not much activity online with that group though they are picking up again. It was the closest one though still pretty far at 1.5 hrs away but now I have the Toledo group.

I will let you know if I do any runs.

sounds good! I am doing day 2 tomorrow...day 1 wasn't all that challenging to me. But I've been walking/running for about a month now and I've been mall walking for a long, long time 1-2 times a week...I am sure when I get further into the program it's gonna kick my butt.

You may be surprised. The program is pretty gentle, really and builds you up slowly.

After such a hard run on Monday, I worked on my speed and was able to run 31 minuts and 2.5 miles, yesterday!:

I am going to do another run today (I've been wanting to add a 4th day to the week, and the opportunity is presenting itself. I felt really good after my run yesterday, and feel great today. I'm going to take it pretty easy, though, because I'm going to be pushing the jog stroller. This will be the first time running with it, so I'm excited.

I can't believe I'm in graduation week!!! I've made it!
You will have to tell me how the stroller goes. I have been considering taking my wee one out with me in the morning since it is warming up a bit again. One old guy at the gym keeps telling me how I need to run some outside since I am training for the ATM. I would rather do it all inside where if something were to happen to me there are people around and I do not have to carry the water bottle.

Great job on your run. I start Wk8 tomorrow.

Still watching all of you guys make progress (and am green with envy ). I think next week I can give the running thing a whirl again! For now I am just walking (with a baby on my chest). I feel like an old lady
