Couch to 5k: Who's in? - Page 9

Hi everyone! I'm about to head out for my wk2 day2 workout.

I totally agree with what bec said about taking it easy/not pushing too hard...I did an extra wk1 day last week because I didn't feel ready to move on yet. That in itself is not a problem but I decided to start wk 2 the NEXT day...and then ended up feeling not up to running for the next 2 days, sore knee and everything. I do have to say though, those two runs were AWESOME at the time. I just regret that I felt so depleted the next 2 days.

Anyhow, keep up the running ladies!

I'm back.
As I started the first run I was afraid that I might not be able to complete my run today...my left knee was REALLY hurting. Luckily, it felt absolutely fine by the 2nd timed run, so I was able to stick with it. I was also really stiff for the first few timed runs of this workout, but felt fine after about halfway through. Overall it went well & now I'm having my post-workout snack (today it's dry puffins cereal & mixed dried fruit. and water). I couldn't run on the path on the bay where I usually run because it is WAY too windy today, so I ended up basically going around in circles around the block.
Confession - I'm alone in the house & listening to (& enjoying) : Laurie Berkner's song 'After It Rains'

HappyNewMama! Congrats on the second run! I love Laurie Berkner too. Remember to stretch really well before and after you run. Also stretch throughout the day if you are feeling stiff. Careful not to overstretch, though. Stretch to your comfort. It shouldn't be painful to stretch. But, if you do the same stretch for a few repetitions, you will see yourself actually stretching a little bit further each time.

Sadly, I could not start Wk9 today. I whacked my knee on our vehicle last night and it still hurts this morning. Figured better take it easy and not hurt myself.

So hopefully I will be able to do it outside (gym closed on wked) on Sat or Sun so I can finish on Wed as scheduled.

LM, I hope your knee feels better soon.

HappyNewMama, you are not too far ahead of me in the program.

Bec and everyone, thank you for the advice and encouragement. I really need it! :

I did wk1 workout3 today. I am on a roll!

Thanks bec I will be sure to do a better job stretching from now on.

LM - hope your knee is doing better. Bummer you had to put off starting your final week of the program! Congratulations for being so close to completion though...how exciting for you!

Aurora - yes, we're nearly in the same spot in the program! Woohoo!!!

I'm just so thrilled to see so many people doing the program!:

I am going to join in on this. My ultimate goal is to run in the marathon that is held in my city this time next year. Considering I haven't run more than 10 feet in about 10 years, one year is a reasonable time to train, right? I'm in reasonable shape, but I've had the goal to run in a marathon for some time and now I'm going to get my butt moving and do it!

Hi ferrum97! I'm using the podcasts, too. I think they're awesome & I probably wouldn't have started the program without them.

Alright everyone, here I go--headed out for my final wk 2 run!

So I finally started Wk 9 today. I did it outside pushing DS2 in the jogger. My knee is doing better but it did start to hurt a bit at times but I made it through S L O W L Y. I probably could of walked faster than I jogged. Tomorrow I will do day 2 so I will finish then on Wednesday hopefully.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the new names I see!!

I completed day one today! It was easier than I thought it would be, but it's only day one so I'll see how it goes. However, I am thinking that I can do this!

Yesterday, I couldn't figure out how to get the podcast onto my ipod, but I eventually got it and I think those will really help me out. I'm so glad I checked this forum.

woohoo bec!!!! I'm glad you're seeing a pick-up in the speed area as I think that's what you were hoping for at this point...I think your method is hollering in my ear--run just for the 'getting out there' factor at this point, and warm up to the speed later. Go you!

msumomma - I see you're doing a 4th day of week 3...can I ask why? Only because I've done an extra day myself, just want to see if our reasons are similar... I know that I did an extra day of wk 1 because I was afraid of going on to wk. 2...I didn't feel ready for it yet. Is that why you did an extra day, too?

SunCB/LM - not sure what to call you! Anyhow, yah for getting out there! I don't know how you women do it who are pushing strollers while hitting these workouts...that's a workout and a half, if not more!!! You go!

Today was an off day for me but I have to say that my sister (like 14 years older than me) said that she's proud of me for getting out there & running & that the biggest regret she has is not being active enough for all these years, so that really made me feel good and is like a little deposit to put away to remind myself of in those times when I might really need some mental strength to get through the workout.

I did an extra day because I wanted another day of cardio for the week, and I didn't feel like doing a dvd or my elliptical...it was such a nice day out so I did another day. I did extra days in week 1 but not week 2 for the same reason. I also think it better prepares me to move forward in the program.

That's exactly the right attitude, HappyNewMama! Get your body used to running, and get out there. Speed can come later. And there are slow runners that are just running to run. And not worrying about their speed at all. That's great too!

Run day for me. Typically this is a hard running day for me, so my plan is to just take it easy and slow.

Congrats to everyone!

BEC- Good luck today!

I did wk2 workout1 today. I really need new shoes. I am getting blisters on the back of my heals because my old shoes are all torn up on the inside. I started running wonky to take some of the pressure off and then my hip started hurting. So, I finished up running right but now my heals kill!

This afternoon I am going to go look for new shoes.
