The Departed

Just saw it last night. That movie was sick! I mean I really liked it, but I hated the ending.

I have to admit: I think Leo DiCaprio is a really really good actor. I loved him since Titanic and I loved him in every movie he made. From "The Beach" to "Gangs of New York" to the "Aviator". I think he is the next Tom Hanks.

I don't generally like DiCaprio but every time I see him in a movie I want to have his babies. There's just something weird about him that makes him REALLY sexy in his roles, even when he's playing a scrubby guy.

Fabulous, fabulous movie, btw. Loved it!

Yeah, I really liked it... more violent than my usual tastes but overall, I liked it & just closed my eyes when it got too violent.

Great cast & a great Boston movie...especially with those local boys Matt Damon & Mark Wahlburg in it

Leo is so yummy. I couldn't believe how much he'd grown since Titanic. I saw the movie twice. My boyfriend's old boss was one of the guys from the coroner's office at the end (the guy who casts the extras lives in my hometown).

OK, I totally agree about the Leo/yum factor

ANd it was fast paced, exciting and w/decent acting...

am I the only one that didn't like this movie?? I thought it offered little compared to some of the other nominated films like Babel (which I didn't think it was perfect either, but at least aimed for something higher...emotional ect)

This just seemed to be a psychological thriller with a lot of gore to me.

I also HATED the woman character....I felt like she was totally badly written and such a cliche....dunno.

I guess I thought this was a decent thriller, but best film of the year? no way. I felt like it was a very disatisfying and empty film. but I guess I stand alone in this....

The woman character was so stupidly predictable. I thought it was ok, but not as fantastic as my dh did. He's watched it like 4 times since we got it last week.

I really enjoyed The Prestige. Twisty and it kept me interested.

I liked it. Best movie? I don't know about that. I do think Leonardo di Caprio was AWESOME. I have never liked him much until I saw this movie. He was fantastic. The boy can act. Not to mention - he is seriously hot! I have a very serious, lustful crush on him right now! Whew! *fanning myself* I don't care much for Matt Damon. His acting seems very canned to me.

yeah, I really liked it - but best movie of the year? not so much...I liked Leo and Matt in it, and Matt was the only one who could pull off a Boston accent. And Mark Walberg, of course. It was painful to hear Jack Nicholson and the other actors try to do it.

He's from there, no?

yeah, I think he is from Cambridge or around there. I guess that makes it a bit easier.

We just watched it last night. I liked it, but was upset by the ending. I kind of knew what was going to happen, but was still upset by it.
Does anyone know what was in the envelope Leo gave the female actress? I don't think it said, but I may have missed it.

I just saw it once. I liked it, thought it was good maybe even great. Although I was telling my brother that I didn't think the script had any holes but it was very complicated so maybe I missed something.: Good direction, cinematography and acting definitely. I will admit that I wasn't crazy about the symbolism of the rat at the end of the film.

Hmmm....now I can't remember...

I can't do spoilers but just google "departed envelope" and you'll find it.

I thought it was riveting, right up until the end. Then they dropped it flat, imo. Too many convoluted plot deductions for the viewer to have to make.

The female character was weak.

Mark Walhberg and Matt Damon have original Boston accents, since they are from Boston, but they laid it on a bit think in some areas. Although there are some people (like my family) who do actually sound like that!
Did Wahlberg get nominated for this role? He was funny, no doubt, but all he really did was throw the f-bomb around and his part was very small.

DiCapro was pretty good, I ended up liking him in this role despite not wanting to, lol. He didn't try to hard with the accent either, which worked better than Nicholson, who tried too hard.

DH has a question about this and I can't think of a good answer.

Remember when the psych lady moved in with Matt Damon? Remember when he pulled out the picture from her box of stuff and it was her as a little girl. He was joking about that picture not being in the living room when they had guests over.

Later on, psych lady is back at her apartment getting more stuff to move. DiCaprio stops in surprising her and then sees that SAME picture and she tells him it's her as a child.

Now, either she had two of the same picture in the same frames.. or? If she was moving in with Damon, and the picture was at his place, how did it get back to her place (that she was moving OUT of) later on in the movie?

I haven't seen the movie but I have to chime in that often, movies use the same photo because they are too lazy to provide a different one. OR the picture is part of the plot. I'll tell you my guess after I see the movie! LOL
