How about teaching your DD to quiz grandma on useless trivia when grandma quizzes her?

Worthless trivia seems to do well. I've yet to have a problem with quizzing since the kids are usually so busy spouting off about the *fill in space with current fascination* they are exploring and it's usually the useless info that they spout.

I could see my mom quizzing the kids if it wasn't for the fact that they are so busy rattling off to her that she can hardly get a word in edge wise.

1. you are allowed a fancy calculator on the college exam tests
2. you are still allowed....no actually most teachers require a fancy calculator IN college

Who actually does long division in their head anyway? (kidding) Yeah, in the supermarket I have been known to do it...BUT I'm good at it now. I struggled at that age, especially with long division and percents, I took Algebra 1 twice too, and it hardly kept me out of college, or from passing college algebra on the first try. Wait, try a differnet method. My family switched from Saxon to Math-u-See videos too, sometimes someone else explaing something makes all the difference! Someone else might say something that makes sense, so try to get a friend, dad, grandpa, someone else that is good at math (and not gonna make fun) to try to explain. I still routinely work out percent problems using the same "formula" that I learned in Saxon pre-algebra. Once you get it, it sticks.

Try to relax!

I agree...take a step back...she's get it when she's ready. I pestered my oldest for 4 years with pre-reading crap and low and behold when I finally backed off she picked it up on her own in about 2 weeks. I mean she made me look like a fool, that smart girl! We had all these worries about processing issues with her and she proved us wrong. doh!

Out of my own guilt for hurting my own dd's self-esteem with the constant "why aren't you listening" "um, that's wrong"....let your dd learn the math when she needs to know the math to do something she wants to do in life. sup:
