When I was in sixth grade, I had a teacher who for some reason kept saying (over and over) that "Japanese teenagers never get acne because they're so clean." I got it in my head that if I only washed my face enough, I wouldn't get pimples. I became obsessive about washing my face many times a day and would even clock the amount of time I was spending washing. All that happened was that my face became raw and irritated, in addition to breaking out at times.
The bottom line is that I agree with DavinaT -- acne is a response to hormonal change and is probably not caused in most cases by lack of cleanliness. I also think that there's a lot of evidence disproving the idea that a "bad diet" causes acne. |
