Numb/tingling hands are driving me crazy!

Does anyone else have to deal with this? This didn't happen during my first pregnancy, but I am really having a hard time this go 'round. Last night I couldn't even hold my book in bed. No matter how I propped myself, my hands were so numb and tingly and hurt. And my fingers' strength has really weakened, too....I find myself not doing certain things, or putting them off, even though they're easy.

Any ideas? I HATE this! Will it go away after he's born?????

I had it with DD - a version of carpal tunnel. I lost all feeling in 2 fingers for the last 4-6 weeks of my pregnancy. It's related to water retention, so make sure you are drinking plenty and lying down on your left side for at least 30 min-1 hour during the day (read some or take a nap).

Mine faded away within 2 weeks of delivering her - i was worried it would last forever too!

Thanks, Becca! I am lying down alot anyway because my doctor suggested it...high blood pressure. It's so disconcerting not to be able to FEEL with my fingers. Thanks for sharing, and I hope mine goes away, too!

I'm dealing with that, too. Sometimes my hands will even go numb while I'm cooking or driving. It's making me a little insane at this point. Do you get the shooting pains from your middle finger to your elbow, like a nerve pain, while your hands are numb/tingling? Hopefully it will go away for us soon after delivery!!

I had severe pre-e with both my girls (so I had tons of swelling) and I experienced numb and tingling hands during the pregnancies and after delivery as well.

My hands are sore and swollen and I can't close my fists tight enough to open bottled water. They go numb when I brush my hair or scrub my back. I can't push myself up using my hands either - and I had to stop going to prenatal yoga.

I did discover that aquasize - a really slow one at this point - worked great and that I didn't notice the numbness as much afterwards - for at least a few hours. I think being in the pool brought the swelling down. Also, I put my hands in the jets in the kiddie pool for a bit which helped.

i've got it too

epsom salt baths seem to help, resting, water , not over working or standing , typing too much

I had it with dd1, but not in my current pregnancy. It did go away after a few days, or maybe a week, when the baby showed up. I have swelling now, but not this numbness. I feel ya, mama!
It helped to sleep with my arms closer to my body instead of above the head. Swimming also helped. And massages, especially the kind that get the circulation going.
Every pregnancy is so different! This time I have BAD backpain.

I've got some of that too. Just my fingertips, and it seems to be concentrated in my ring, middle, and index fingers. Comes and goes, and seems to coincide with the headaches, which THANKFULLY have been less frequent!

Everything but the pinky in my right hand. I gave birth 10 days ago, and there's been no change so far

Karen,

My friend recommended I up my protein and for today, at least, it seems to be helping! Maybe that could help you, too...80-100 grams a day or something!

By the way, I looked at your family photo in your signature, and you are all sooo beautiful. I think you and I are a couple of the older mamas in this DDC, and it's nice to see that there really will be a baby at the end of this long pregnancy. Your son looks fabulous! Congratulations.
