You and your kids favorite car music

Thread Starter
I am looking for some fun music for my son. I also want some soothing music for my newborn DD. Any suggestions?

My older dd likes Sesame Street tapes, one is specifically for the car, but I forget the title. The other one is "Elmo's Lowdown Hoedown." She also likes books on tape. We have "Guess How Much I Love You", "The Mitten" and "The Hat." For soothing music we play "Lullaby Journey", "Bach Variations" and "Star Dreamer." Dd and I are particularly fond of "Star Dreamer." It is both soothing and fun.

Raffi, Maria Muldaur, and oh yeah, Sofiamomma, the Bach. We cycle endlessly through these three.

We listen to A LOT of kids music. Both dh and I were musicians when we were younger...dh still plays on occasion and we have all kinds of music floating about the house!

Sesame Street - We have a few SS Cd's that we play in the car. Alphabet (one song for each letter), Platinum Favorites and Elmopalooza. Dd (22mo) LOVES all of them but Elmopalooza is her favorite. Dh and I don't mind it much...it's SS standards + some new original stuff sung by current musicians all in different song styles (gloria estefan, steve tyler, mighty mighty bosstones, jimmy buffet, shawn colvin, etc).

Winnie the Pooh - We got a free WTP cd from Huggies last year as part of the points program. It's EXCELLENT and I haven't seen it anywhere else! Very low key w/ lots of pooh and tigger on it as well as other singers.

Fisher Price Little People- they have an entire line of cd's based on their little people characters. We have Songs for the Road and the International one...maybe one other. Dd really likes them....kid standbys with cute inter song talking, etc.

Tom Chapin - This is Harry's brother..does a lot of kid stuff. We have his Zig Zag cd...geared for a bit older than toddler...but GREAT original kid music.

Laurie Berkner - Another musician w/ stuff for a bit older kids...but great stuff none the less. We have Buzz Buzz.

My sister is amassing a Veggie Tales collection for dd and has a bunch of cd's she has to give us yet. I forsee them being popular based on how thrilled dd is by the Silly Songs video tape we have.

My dh burnt a Cd for dd with all the cute lullabies like "Twinkle, twinkle little star" or "Fast asleep" - we usually put it on repeat and that takes us far.
Also dd like "Return to the Pooh corner" by Kenny Logins (very soothing) and recently she brightens up to my old nineties cheesy songs by "Take That" (the British boy band).

Well, my kids are still too little to care, but MY favorite kids' album is Dan Zanes "Rocketship Beach." It's really very fabulous, not at all annoying, doesn't get old the way some kids' music can. I don't know about soothing, but it's *very* fun.

Happy listening!

My dd who is 4 loves Laurie Berkner (We have Under a Shady Tree and Whaddaya Think of That) and Ralph of Ralph's World (Happy Lemons and At the Bottom of the Sea). Ralph seems to be better suited for older children, IMO.

For babies, I *love* Lullaby: A Collection. Sometimes I listen to it on my own in the car without the baby!

I really like Dan Zanes' CDs. The music is unique, and it doesn't get old.

We have a great Lullabie CD but can't remember who it is by now. I will look.

We're big fans of the Kenny Loggins Lullaby Cd...

John Lithgow (from Third Rock From the Sun) has a kids CD out called Singing in the Bathtub. It is great and very catchy.

Oh, I like the Lifescapes stuff, too! We play it in the house, though. We also have Kenny Loggins' House at Pooh Corner. I bought dd2 one of those Fisher Price Little People tapes because she seemed so taken with the demo. I, for one, though, don't really care much for the inter-song chitchat. I was actually going to post a thread for people's ideas on sing-along tapes like that!

We love the Wee Sing series. They have folk songs, silly songs, patriotic songs and they each come with a book with the words and fingerplays for some. Great stuff! I the Nicolette Larson for your baby...I listened to it every day in the car when I was pregnant with dd. She loved it as much as I did after she was born!

Celtic Lullabies by Eden's Bridge never fails to put my dd to sleep in the car. Ds seems to like it too. Very soothing. My MIL bought it off the TV I think. :

Every single time we get into the car, my three year old yells, "Beatles! Mommy, mommy, put on the Beatles!" It's their "One" album, and she knows all the words by heart
