OK my scalp can't take the torture anymore.

learn me what to do!

I have tried so many things to no avail.

my scalp is dry and itchy. My hair is thick and wavy.

what should I try first?

and a silly question...shampoo bars are still shampoo right?

Here's the link that I used when getting started all of a week ago:

My hair is pretty much the opposite of yours -- thin and limp, tending to be oily, so I'll defer discussion of specifics to someone who is more knowledgeable.

Great link~ I have been seriously contemplating going no poo, too Natural shampoos are so DANG expensive. hmmmm, anxious to hear how you mamas make out with this.

Either of you have long hair?

I keep mine short, actually. And I've only been doing this for about a week, so maybe I don't have the best perspective, but so far my hair is amazing. It's clean, has body, and feels full -- not limp and greasy like it typically did before. I am very happy with this new regime.

I just started the no-poo thing to! I have long fairly thick slightly wavy hair. I washed my scalp with a mix of bs and a bit of honey with a finishing rince of av and water and then another rince of water. I realy liked how my hair felt, clean and soft. I decided to see how long it took for my hair to feel greasy. I brush my hair every night to distribute oils and stimulate my scalp. It's been 5days and my hair still looks great. My scalp is feeling a little itchy today though so I think I will wash it again tonight.

I use shampoo bars from www.chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com and find that they are an extremely gentle, soap-based option. Although I don't necessarily consider this to be no-poo, it is definitely no-detergents, which was my goal.

My dh and I both had troubles with our scalps. Very itchy and uncomfortable. But these shampoo bars are SO gentle we felt relief right away and have liked all the kinds we've tried.

Everytime I tried to drop the shampoo routine before I would get really frustrated with always havingto tweak my routine. I just was never able to find one thing that always worked. That's why I decided to try a shampoo bar that would let me get away from harsh detergents but still have the ease of shampoo. Does that make sense?

I use commercial conditioner sometimes still or nothing to condition or a ACV rinse. Dh uses no conditioner now.

All about no-poo

The Curly girl stuff is good for dry, thin, brittle, fragile, and/or curly, wavy hair. Curly hair is more fragile than straight hair usually (even though it doesn't look it).

I have success mixing baking soda and some silicone free conditioner in a container and watering it down so that the baking soda is dissolved (good for winter) - I can use the baking soda and conditioner paste directly, but that's better for summer. My hair has a tendency to break (or it looks like it's falling out -- then again, I'm under a lot of stress and anemia) with baking soda that isn't dissolved properly, so I have to dissolve it more.

OK, sounds about like my hair. I am curious tpo hear about this "detox" phase.......as it is I wash about every 2-3 days. A shampoo bar sounds nice, too. hmmmm.

I did it! I finally went no-poo this morning. So far, so good! I was amazed at how soft my hair felt after rinsing with the acv/water combo. I'm standing in the shower thinking, why didn't I try this sooner?

My hair is 10 inches past my shoulders (it was 21 inches past my shoulders until a few days ago when I had all the damaged parts chopped off). It's average thickness and slightly wavy. At the moment, it feels wonderful! I noticed a little residue-y feel to it as I brushed it earlier, but it certainly looks nice and is soft and bouncy.

Goodbye, sodium lauryl sulfate!

(I've always wanted to use that smiley!)

I use the CV bars as well and I them! Totally natural and my hair has never looked or felt better

I have been using shampoo bars for almost a year now!! My hair is to the middle of my back and dyed (yea, I know- the only thing I can't let go of ). I use Blue House Soaps, CV, and Burt's Bees bars. My hair looks better than it did before and I love it. It's really no more difficult than using shampoo once you get into it I have not tried the BS yet

My hair is similar to yours, and I use ACV only. I use about 1/2 or 3/4 cup and add about 3 cups very hot water just before putting it on. The trick is to massage your scalp very thoroughly before applying ACV, while it's on, and while rinsing. I like to use a ventilated brush (slots between bristles) which nicely distributes the oils loosened from the scalp down the hair shaft.

My hair feels oily and smells like vinegar after washing, but once it dries it feels silky and smells fresh. I don't need conditioner anymore. I can wash my hair much less often than I used to. I do rinse it every 2-3 days between washings.

so do you not use BS at all, only ACV?
