Children's Books about Birth/HB

I've tried searching this forum to find old threads about this...I know they're out there...I just can't find them.

DS will be 24 months when the new babe will be born. We have "Welcome with Love". To tell you the truth, I'm not crazy about it, esp. the part where the MW pulls on the cord to get the placenta out. But...It's good enough and I can edit the text enough to be relevant to us.

Are there any books out there that you mamas like better? HB books would be great as well as any books about birth/welcoming a new baby as long as it's not an overt Hospital Birth reference and could be understood by a young child.

Thanks mamas, I know you'll have some good ideas!

I just got the book and thought the same thing.. Darn, have to be all techncal and analyize birth even in a CHILDRENS book, LOL. I'm so anal/perfectionist sometimes (there I admitted it).

I read it to ds though, although I'm stll torn whether to return it or not (we are most likely NOT havng a homebrth, but I do want my son to be present if he wants to, if it works out- tough at a hospital, argh). He seemed to like it. I'll have to read it to him again and see if he will talk to me more about it this tme, sometimes it takes a few reads before he can express his feelings.

I felt a little better after reading it with him.

My kids have loved "Runa's Birth". You can get it here.

I haven't read it, but Runa's Birth is supposed to be great. There's also Waiting for the Sun...again, no personal experience, sorry. It's really hard to find HB-friendly kids' books! They all talk about "bringing baby home."
The Dr. Sears one...Baby on the Way...is OK, except they talk about mommy going somewhere to have a baby - not "to the hospital," but still "going." It does have co-sleeping and baby nursing of course, though they include the whole "daddy might give a bottle" part as well. Hey, I'll take what I can find sometimes!

Maybe we MDC moms need to write a book ourselves? I'm sure there are some talented mamas out there

We have "Baby on the Way" and we ad-lib over the parts that don't fit. I even change the kind of sandwich the mama eats because ds2 is offended if I talk about peanut butter (he's allergic to it, lol).

Thanks for the tips! I will have to check them out....and I have been thinking about writing my own book too! I'm getting tired of editing as I read!

I'll be checking this book out too-thanks! That's too funny about the PB sandwich (that your ds is offended, not that he's allergic!)
