Best dryer balls?

I'm about to order a pair of those blue dryer balls. I see 2 kinds, the round "as seen on TV" kind, and the football shaped ones called "Nellie's".

Is one better than the other? Does one work better, or make less noise in the dryer?

I have the ones "as seen on TV". I love them, they are great. And yes, they do make noise in the dryer.

They are running a "does it really do that?" series on the local news we watch. They did the dryer balls awhile back.

Long story short: they don't really do that. The lady who tested them liked them well enough, but the towels dried with the balls didn't stack any higher than the exact same towels dried without the balls. The drying didn't take any shorter a time either.

I'm not clear on why the lady who tested them liked them, but by objective measures, they didn't do what their packaging claims.

Which is a bummer, because if they had, I'd've looked into what they're made of to avoid any allergy issues and gotten a set.
