it's been really really cold here and dd is still screaming her head off when i take off her clothes/dipaers... so we have only been peeing after sleeping and at diaper changes (she still has the squirting poops too). she pees 9/10 times when i cue her, but i would like to start taking her more often.

how often do you pee a newborn?

Sorry I can't help! I just wanted to say good luck! My 3.5 month old goes potty twice an hour.

The best way to get a feel for how often your baby needs to be taken to potty is to spend a day obsverving her. If at all possible, keep her bare bottomed and just have her sit on a prefold or towel or something similar for a whole day, and take notes! Write down the time and what she does. Also helpful is recording her naps and nursing and whatever else you can think of. Then you'll begin to notice any patterns. I did this and it helped *tremendously*.

You might just end up frustrating herself and yourself if you take her too often or not enough, so get out that pen and paper and find out for SURE when she needs to go! Don't worry about pottying her while observing, just when you notice her going on her prefold give her the verbal signal you have for eliminating. Then the next day you can anticipate when she needs to go and hold her in position and verbally cue. You'll start learning her cues to you as well, in time!!

I'm pretty sure every baby is different. At one month DS was peeing once every 50-60 minutes, but I think I just have a very infrequent pee-er. Now that he tells US when he has to go, I think it may be more often than that, 3 months later!

I would do what IntoTheBliss recommended, although, if its very cold, maybe just time between 2 pees, or between nursing and the first pee, and go from there. That's what we did, because it was WAY too cold to have DS unclothed for longer here!

Yeah...rural western NY...I bet that means you're in the southtowns...and that you're sure to be hurting from the cold! "Up here" in Buffalo its been bad, but we never get it like you do!

Yeah...so time between 2 pees, or put some pants on that baby and notice when the wet spot forms! You could also snappi on a cloth diaper (or just put it around her) and keep your hand on her diaper.

Whoops! Haha I was telling DH about how I thought you were in the southtowns, and he was like, "Well you should have known, people from the southtowns are so used to the cold they don't complain about it." Maybe true, 'cuz we sure still complain about it in Buffalo!

Hopefully it will warm up soon and we can EC our babies MUCH easier without alll the extra clothes, and even in the great outdoors! Looking forward to spring!

Hey, I am origianlly from Syr. NY so I had to jump in and say HI!!!! We have been in Asia for the last 3 yrs. and let me tell you, in a tropical climate 365, I miss the cold!
Anyway, I thought I would tell you about my newest find for EC'ing with cooler temps. They are called "BabyLegs" Little leg warmers for babies. Not sure if I can post a link here or not, just do a search in google for them. They were designed by a SAHM. Fantastic and a great idea. They come in all sorts colors and patterns.
We travel frequetnly and keep the house quite cool plus have marble flooring, so we use them often. My DD pees every 15-20 minutes after nursing, for about an hour, then goes to sleep. Just to give you an idea on timing. She's 3 1/2 mo.

My DD also pees every 15 / 30 minutes or so. But if she doesn't like being peed, I wouldn't bother her, personally. You don't want her to get a negative association. I peed my DD every 1/2 hour or hour or so and it doesn't seem to have affected her overall progress (we're finally back on track).

Good luck!
