Why test?

Does anyone know why you still need to go in for a pregnancy test if you get a period after doing ivf? I've had some goopy brown/black discharge when going to the bathroom yesterday and today, so figure its a lost cause, and really dont want to go back to the doctor....Does anyone have experience with this?

I forgot to mention that I am doing crinone, a progesterone gel, 2x day...

Well, I haven't had experience with that, but my re's office says to go in even if you are spotting, as you could still be pg - could be implantation, especially if it is brown and not red.

If it were me, I would go in so I know for sure before giving up.

Good luck, Iberk, I really hope it is implantation spotting and not ugly old af!

I had red and brown spotting several times in my first trimester. I think the first time was within a week or so of the positive pregnancy test. There can be bleeding from embryos settling into the lining, from minor disruption of the implantation procedure, hormone issues, etc.

Well, it is definitely af. I'm finding this tough to handle. Although I have a beautiful, amazing 4year old son we were really hoping for another child. It is not meant to be. I wish you all here on this board lots of strength, and I hope you all find some way to have the family you are hoping for...

Oh, Iberk. I am so so sorry. I really thought this cycle was going to work. I just want to cry, I am so sad for you. :

Sending you healing, peaceful thoughts, and hoping you can find some comforting during this difficult time.
