Canadian Mamas: Where did you get your birth pool?

Hi Mamas,

I'm having a last minute panic because I think I would like to have a waterbirth (or at least labour in water) but now that I'm 38 weeks (and my first baby came at 37 weeks) I'm pretty limited in my choices. I basically need to be able to drive and get it. Today.

Here's my first option, and it's in stock at my local Canadian Tire:

Seascape Family Pool
$39.99

Does this look like a good option? I like the price...

If not, please offer other ideas.

Thank you!

i'm no expert but that looks pretty handy dandy.

Thanks. But my husband seems to think the sides would cave in and flood the house. Anyone have experience with this pool, or something similar? I still think it would work fine, although I wish it was a little higher. (But for the price, you really can't go wrong.)

do you have a midwife whose opinion you can ask?

It'd work, IMO, but it's just SO much water, that it might be hard to fill it and have it be suitably warm. 203 gallons!

I bought one at Canadian Tire, but it was a simple round pool with fish on it. It's not on the website anymore...I'd phone them and ask what all they have, if they have some different stuff in storage, etc. They have it all on their computers, and they might have some leftovers waiting to get cleared out in the summer.

BTW if you live in the greater KW Ontario area, my pool's only gotten half filled once my HB ended in a transfer. You're welcome to purchase it from me

Thanks everyone.

My midwife came yesterday and agreed that this pool looks way too big. Their favourite pool is from Canadian Tire (no longer on the website) and it's called the Aquarium Pool, I think. (It's probably the same pool, MamaJava.) They like the smaller size. I should call and see if it's available in-store. Thanks for the offer, MamaJava, but I don't think I'll be out your way before the birth.

The midwives' second choice is a pool from Walmart. She said the "beams" in the wall of this pool go up and down, instead of side to side and it's kind of like a rainbow. I may try to locate this one. I wonder if they carry them off-season?

I used the "fishy" pool as well. My midwife brought it with her. It's now in my garage waiting for summer so we can use it to play in!

I'm sad. No pools at all at Walmart or Canadian Tire. Off season... Maybe I'll just get this idea out of my head right now so I don't end up any more disappointed. (The midwives said they may have one next week, but who knows when the baby will come...)
