De clutter in Kids room

How do you de clutter in kids rooms?
Esp. when they seem to remember everything they own- even the piece of stryophome they found at the park?
How much do they need, anyhow?
We are moving, and their stuff seems like too much!
thanks

When we moved, we left them with family while we packed up their rooms. We got rid of most of their toys- just kept the nice ones and the favorite ones. When we got moved in there were still boxes in the garage for several months that we had not yet sorted through. If the kids asked for a toy we'd gotten rid of, we'd say "It may be in one of those boxes in the garage. We'll look for it when we get around to sorting through them." Eventually they forgot about those things.

I second, I packed when they weren't around. If your kids are old enough you could give them a number of boxes and tell them you can only take what will fit and they need to give the rest to someone else who can use it...
