how bad is white rice? - Page 2

I much prefer brown, and almost never eat rice due to the high glycemic index rating.

What is the 2 hour cook method?

I also grew up on white rice but had no problem switching to brown. Now restaurant white rice taste so cheap (poor quality) to me.

My current fav is brown basmati. Sometimes I will add about 1/4 cup of white jasmine to a cup of brown basmati for the aroma and texture, depending on the dish I am making (usually Indian).

I haven't explored too many varieties of brown rice but one we really like is Lundberg's Black Japonica. It is a blend of mahogany and black rice. I usually blend it with other grains to create a sort of pilaf. If you mix it with lighter colored grains, the result is rather purplish which is fun. My four year old and I like that you can use it as a hot cereal for breakfast - it appeals to him especially because when you add a milk to the bowl, you get purple cereal.

Dh and I have found that white rice isn't filling. Its pretty sad to sit down to dinner eat a bunch of white rice and whatever and be hungry a hour or 2 later.

We also cant hack the strange flavor it has.

We like brown rice and trying the many different kinds there are

We dont' eat a TON of rice, but I can't live without the occassional red wine rissotto.

I like brown rice if it's nice and toasted first like in a pilaf or something.
