We are having a 'potty pause' or 'potty strike'. If you have any advice/suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!
Our baby is now almost 14 months old.
We have been doing Elimination Training since about 6 weeks old.
Since 7 months he has been poo-ing on the toilet.
Until 2 weeks ago, this was going so great. He would poo 4 x day, always at the same time (after each meal and before bed) and always on the toilet.
Maybe twice a week he would poo in his nappy (always during a nap, not when awake).
We were thrilled it was going so well, and he even would poo on the toilet when we went out - we would just sit him on the edge of a big toilet and hold him. He even started to say 'poo-poo'.
BUT, the past two weeks, we have had a lot of changes in the house that have disrupted his environment.
He has adjusted fine to the new poeple and loves playing with them - but he does not poo on the potty anymore.
Now he only poo's on the potty ONCE a day, after dinner, before bath. The other times during the day he does not want to poo on the potty and has been poo-ing in his nappy.
Often during his naps and he wakes up miserable. I try to put him on the potty before the nap, but he won't. And after the nap is too late.
There are three reasons I see for this:
1. The change in the environment has upset him and he is unsettled.
2. Because I have been using disposable nappies (we usually use cloth) the past two weeks (will start using cloth again next week).
3. And maybe a third reason, his diet changing? He is eating more solids and eating a banana a day for breakfast and loves them so I don't want to take them away. He has been doing this for over a month though...
Have you had any experience with 'potty pauses' or 'potty strikes' if so, what advise/suggestions do you have?
Thank you very much!!
