Disney movies - Frog Princess?

Hello everyone!
I'm not sure that I'm in the right place, but I thought this could be a start. I am working on a project for a multicultural class I'm in. Our group would like to present examples of racism, sexism, classism... etc.. that are marketed to children as part of the norm. I've been able to find a lot of examples of racism from old Looney Tunes and Disney cartoons, but haven't found much recent stuff. If anyone can think of examples or point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!
Kathryn

Well, just look at most Disney movies to find examples of all of the above. In most of them, the pretty, thin, pale-skinned princess has to be saved from the darker foes. (I think Aladdin is one of the movies where the skin tone issue is most apparent.) The protagonists are always physically above average, and the villains physically ugly.

Then there's Curious George, a monkey stolen from Africa by your friendly neighborhood white guy (i.e., colonialism is a good thing), who has to save the troublemaking George over and over. The Berenstein Bears have been noted for their portrayal of gender roles, as has Babar.

Even on some of the more egalitarian shows, like Sesame Street, you'll often find the female monsters having to clean up when the others make a mess. (Prairie Dawn is ringing a bell on that one.)

If you Google "children's programming" and stereotypes, you'll find a wealth of information. Or, better yet, use the research databases at your college with the same keywords and you'll find peer-reviewed works on the same topic.

not on racism, but sexism, so I hope you don't mind but please discuss BRATZ and My Scene Barbies. Oh I hate those stupid little dolls. They promote such awfuls ideals and I totally hate having my daughter be drawn to them no matter how much we discuss how they are not appropriate.

Awesome! Thanks so much, these ideas give me great direction. If you think of anything else, please let me know.

And if there's anyone out there who can help answer some of my questions about this whole Captain America thing, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

More thoughts on Disney

Can anyone help me out with some of these Disney movies. I'm not as familiar with them as I'm sure some of you are! Was the Princess in Atlantis black? Also, in that movie, how was the presentation of the latina character, Audrey?
Additionally, any thoughts about the new movie The Frog Princess? Is it just me or are frogs a racist symbol for Black people?

Thanks again!
