Loose thread on underside of fabric from serger

I have a Singer Ultralock serger... No matter what I try, I always have big, loose loops of thread on the underside of what I am serging. The top looks fine.

I've tried adjusting the tension on the loopers, and even with the tension at it's highest, I still have the loops (it almost seems that they get BIGGER with the more tension I put on it). I've threaded and re-threaded following the instructions on the machine so I know they're threaded right and in the correct order.

I've consulted my users manual and have done as it suggested, to no avail.

I see there are other adjustments to be made on the serger... Could the loose loops be a result of something else on the machine being out of adjustment? I am not familiar with sergers, but there is a knob on my right side that has numbers, then a half-moon type of adjustment wtih numbers, then two options near the needles I can switch to...

I'm just sewing two layers of fabric together in most cases... Nothing complicated, thick or rough. I don't know what the problem is.

What else can I do??? I'm about to throw this serger out the window!

I have a Pfaff and when that happened to me, It was becuz I didn't have it threaded EXACTLY right. I had missed on of the little hooks in the thread path, such a little thing, but my serging was a big ole mess! Hope you figure it out. I'd check my thread path very closely.

It sounds like your tension is off. Did you try changing the tension for the lower looper? If it doesn't change, then it is probably not threaded correctly, which can sometimes mean something as simple as just making sure it "catches" in the tension dial. Check the spot where it touches the dial. There's a little catch in there that sometimes doesn't get "caught." After you thread it by the dial, it should pull with more difficulty than it did before.

The other dials, differential feed and stitch length, shouldn't have anything to do with the looping.

It's very frustrating, I know!

I checked the tension to make sure it was woring by pulling the thread... It's hard to pull through when I have the tension set high. I'm at a loss! I'm halfway tempted to take it to a sewing store and ask them to figure it out for me! LOL.

This is what happened to mine a few years ago and I haven't used it since, because I just figured it was unfixable.
