I don't really know what this post is about....but I just wanted to post in here. I have recently been 'diagnosed' with ppd and opted to take meds. I don't really know what to do, or where to go with this information. I sorta feel lost. So anyways, just to get my feet wet over in this section of the boards, hi.

I think this is the place for us that feel "lost"

I'm kinda lost too, but knowing I'm not alone actually helps much.

I'm sorry to hear you both feel "lost". PPD is not a fun road to travel. There are lots of things you can do to help improve the situation!

B Vitamins are known to help aid in depression, also magnesium. And many foods help make seratonin, which is what helps you feel calm. My faves are almonds, bananas, milk, eggs and turkey. Also a diet that includes whole grains, fresh veggies and lots of water helps tremendously. Try to stay away from excess sugars and caffiene if possible. Healthy sleep and exercise is key, too.

SabbathD - I'm curious... what meds are you taking? Do you feel any improvement since you started the meds?

Island_Mama, since the birth of your baby is so recent you should definitely wait for the "okay" from your midwife or doc before diving into a workout. And I'm sure your sleep schedule has changed a lot in the past couple weeks. A good night's sleep always helped perk me up, but that can definitely be tricky with a newborn. You may hear lots of people say it, but it's true. Sleep when baby sleeps, it will help!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel! Hang in there, and try to take one day at a time. I understand it's not easy.

I started taking Zoloft at 2 weeks pp when I started having thoughts about hurting my ds. I didnt WANT to hurt him, I just kept obsessing about the fact that I COULD. Like, I could go to the kitchen and get a pair of sciccors (sp) and hurt him.... I certainly didnt want to do that, but I kept thinking about the women who lose it and kill their children with PPS. The zoloft helped tremendously.... I then quit taking it at 4 months pp and the thoughts came back.... so I started it again around 6 months. I am on it now and truly feel like it has saved our lives. I feel happy. I am not angry anymore. The intrusive thoughts are gone. My ds is thriving and I am in love with him.
