Getting misplaced snaps out?

What is the best way to do this? i've been using a screw driver to wedge it out and not only am i messing up the fabric, i also slipped and cut my finger. i heard something about melting it out, but how do you do that and with what?

I think the fastest way to safely remove a snap is to use a nailclipper.

oh, that looks like a wire cutter maybe. it says "craftsman"...did you get at a hardware store?
