what kind of Fleece for shorties?

I want to make my son some simple fleece short covers for summer, but don't know anything about fleece weight. What weight would i need for a water resistant cover? We have a Joanne and Hancocks near by, but don't mind ordering online. Can anyone help?

200 & 300 wt are recommended. I use the JoAnn's Alpine and anti-pill and they're good, but I have to use two layers. If I only use one layer it leaks a little and the compression wicking is pretty bad. Two layers works well though.

Fabric Depot carries Malden Mills fleece, and some MM Wind Pro. The MM is excellent quality and a single layer would be fine.

That's what I do.
