I resurrected this thread because I was just reading the Vegan forum and felt like an alien on another planet : It's the thread about "Should we strive for a vegan world?" and I learned that some vegan people feel it's wrong to have animals as pets or for any domestic purpose. Wow. I used to think vegetarianism was a dietary thing, but apparently there's a whole range of philosophies that go along with it.
Me too, and I really don't understand. I've tried to ask respectful questions out of curiousity trying to understand but I got the boot

Yeah, I lurk over there sometimes-but even in doing that I feel unwelcomed . Really I think strong dogmatic approaches only alienate people. Really I thought we all could have more constructive discussions (on both sides) instead of reducing things to the typical omni vs. veggie debates, which are getting so old. I use to think both groups had more similarities than differences, perhaps I'm just wrong and a little too naive.

You know, there have been studies done that when carnivores/omnivores need to eat, they get more aggressive, as a signal to go kill something to eat. Maybe they just need a little meat over on the other side?

Just a gentle reminder from Mothering's UA -

Do not start a thread to discuss member behavior or statements of members made in other threads or to criticize another discussion on the boards.

While I appreciate the frustrations and tensions that can come up between people who are vegetarian and those who eat animal foods, it is not in the best interest of the Mothering community if we discuss other threads or individuals in a negative way.

I actually wasn't talking about mothering's vegan board, I was talking in general. And I don't criticize anyone's lifestyle/eating habbits. But I have been myself by those who don't eat meat. I guess If I thought it appauling to have animals dead or alive in my house I wouldn't want to go somewhere with them all over the place. I suppose we should just all remain separated.
