how to "sterilize" the pee cup?

I know, it's an odd question

I've started doing my own urinalysis, and I have a plastic cup that is perfect for peeing in. (As in... it all gets in the cup and not on my hands I know it has to be clean so it doesn't alter the results, but how clean does it have to be? Soap and water? A disinfectant? I have no clue.

My mw has always just rinsed it out with water and dried it.

Since I now do all my own prenates I do the same.

I have used the same pee cup for three pregnancies.

What makes the perfect pee cup? I've been using little dixie cups and it would be nice to not pee on my hands.

If it's just dip sticks a good rinse should be fine (and a soap water wash one in a while)

LOL... I use little plastic dixie cups. But my big ol' twin belly is so darn big that I can't see a thing under there, and pee all over my hand, blindly flailing the cup underneath me in the hopes of catching something. :

And I haven't really tried sterilizing them or anything. Are we supposed to?

Blindly flailing!

Sterilization would only be necessary for urine cultures. I haven't attemted this on my own yet, but I was tempted to buy agar plates off ebay and have a go at doing my own urine cultures and GBS screening. . . alas no extra $$ for such fun.
As long as the cup doesn't have sugar, blood, protein, etc in it it should be fine.

laughup OK, I'm getting *such* a visual at that.

FTR, I use an old jelly jar, used it for all the opk's and pg test strips, and by this time am so darn comfortable with it, it just wouldn't be a trip to the bathroom without peeing on my own hand it would seem. : heehee

Or y'all could just pee directly on the strip! It makes no difference in the result, unless you need to do a clean catch to send to a lab. If you've just got the simple 2 or 4 strips, just stick it midstream. You will probably still pee on your hand, oh well!

apparently 1 good skill learned from my pee-stick habit.

clear plastic disposable cups.

Ah! That's the answer I was looking for.

I've tried just peeing on the stick, but I ultimately pee everywhere BUT on the stick. The cup is working great for now... though I think as this twin belly gets bigger, I may need to use a big plastic tupperware or something
