Walking Questions

I was hoping everyone could share with me how thier babies' learned to walk. My almost ten month old has been walking since he was 8 1/2 months, but took his first steps in front of someone other than me yesterday-- so I was wondering how long it takes until they walk rather than crawl or cruise as a regular form of locomotion. At the moment he really only walks if it is too far to cruise, but not quite far enough to bother getting down and scooting. Not that I am overly anxious for him to walk all the time, but he is a butt-scooter and I am sick to death of people asking me if there is something wrong with his leg! So ladies, what happens after the 1st steps?

Well, Jonny isn't walking yet(thank goodness!) but Ben walked at 9 1/2 months, and he actually took his first steps at my sister's house. My nephew was in a walker(he's 3 months younger than my son) and my son was standing next to the walker, nephew backed up a few inches, and DS walked towards him. After that, he was off and running. He would only crawl on occassion once he took those first steps, mostly to get over to a couch, wall, etc to pull himself up on, then he'd walk, little booger could walk before he could stand up by himself! LOL

I think it kind of depends on your baby, mine started walking independently at 10 1/2 months and about a week later he was no longer crawling. But I know another baby who didn't walk much even after he took steps for a few months, and she still crawls quite a bit. It seems like there's so many factors working together - personality, environment, etc to determine how fast a baby gives up crawling.

Well, so long as other babies vary in when they start always-walking I won't worry myself over it, but I do like to hear what other little ones did or do!
