I'm thinking Roman August Oscar Cyril Mylastname Hislastname.

August - seems feminine to me (I think of girls named April, May, June) but I do love the nickname Gus. I'd just name him Gus honestly.

Oscar - I do think of Sesame Street but it is a good "not too common but easy to say and spell" name. I think (from reading the first page) that this is your ds1's name.

Karl - ick.... bad connotation for me

Roman - this is what I voted for; strong but not common and easy to say and spell. Perfect!

Cyril/Cy - I don't know how to say it... like cereal without the "ee"?

Bob - too plain!

Conrad - doesn't really do it for me

And if I'm right that your ds1 is Oscar, I really like Oscar and Roman as siblings.

I'm surprised people think August is feminine because it is uber masculine to me.

Nope, my second son was very, very nearly Roman, but is Carl (though I kinda wish we did it with "k"). I like it actually, sounds Swedish and old-fashioned to me. It is actually much less commonly used now than Oscar (or Roman or August), but it of course sounds more common. DS1 is very uncommon so we were shooting for slightly less ethnic/unusual that time around.

Cyril is pronounced See-ril. Sort of.

I'm surprised people think August is feminine! Never heard that, but different takes on names are interesting.

This is my grandfather's name and he does pronounce the full name this way (sort of, like you said) but often goes by Cy with a long I sound.

Just following your poll since I recognize the name from my childhood...

Is your grandfather English? I always thought of it as very English (not a bad thing, but I'm not, and our last name is not...) until I read about its origin. I wonder if it's currently popular anywhere else, or how popular it is/was there.

No, he's American of German descent from a farm in Nebraska originally. He is in his mid to late eighties. I wish I knew his middle name so I could share that.

So will you share ds1's name? I love your name choices, so far. I don't see August as feminine, either. But I don't associate it with the month so much, either.

I have known of several Augusts who were female. Males I have known were Augustus. I think of that as a title, like Augustus Caesar, who's name was Octavian.

I just don't think you could go wrong with those. I like Oscar.

I guess I have heard of Augusta, but never August for a girl. Interesting.

My great-grandfather's name was August, as was my cousin's grandfather (both from the same small town, I guess they started their own trend). Both very nice men, so I have a soft spot for that name.
If we have a girl, I've suggested Augusta for a middle name. Dh sort of turns up his nose, but my grandma would love it (her father).
I don't know if I'd use August for a boy, but maybe Augustin, like the author Augusten Burroughs. DH fears people would call him Gus or Auggie, but I still think it's a cool name. I had a great-uncle we called Gus and a family friend we called Auggie, so not a problem for me.
I knew a Roman who was a real pain in the ass, so that name doesn't do it for me. Oscar= grouch. I don't know if I'll ever get past that (although he was my favorite Seseme St character). Which syllable do you emphasize with Cyril? I've heard it pronounced both ways.
I've known a lot of good guys named Karl, too, so that's my 2nd choice.

I like August.

It's one of the names we circled in a baby name book--but we decided not to use A for both of our children.

ooh I think Arden and August would be nice. I know what you mean though. I never set out to get matching names, but seem to be obsessed with C names anyway.

I voted Cyril

I voted for Oscar, for the same reason as other posters mentioned: I like older men's names - seem so sophisticated for adults yet ultra-cute on youngsters.

My dh vetoed Oscar. He falls asleep during all black-and-white movies, though, so there you go.
