Once again a big thank you. He is still not awake but they did figure out it is a blood infection. Before they are able to treat him they need to figure out what kind, the degree, and where it originated from. They believe some sort of infection was already in place and are doing scans to see if there are any places with heat that could be the source. He spiked a high fever during the night but thet were able to get it down pretty quick.

The nurse who brought the pizza just came back for a new shift and yelled at me(in a joking way) that I didn't finish the pizza like she told me to. I've been eating nuts and fruits but am pretty much indulging myself in not so good for you food. A couple days of pizza and burgers isn't the end of the world as the floor nurse keeps telling me.

It's been hard to focus on me and the baby. My IL's say that I have to come home at least once a day and at least for 4 hours. It's of course also for their benifit since only 2 people can be in the room at a time. I am home right now with my BIL hanging out with my 4 cats and just doing laundry and some emails and calls for work.

Well we've finally got our answers. Apparently while we were on vacation his appendix burst. The doctors have no clue as to how he wouldn't know because they say the pain should have been excrutiating. His body started to break down the appendix which was already undergoing an infection. The infection spread through his blood stream and then the blood cells themselves developed an infection.

Once his fevers stable out he will have surgery(hopefully tonight) and they say once the appendix is removed he should wake up shortly after. I've got my fingers crossed right now. If all goes well the doctor's say it'll be a tough recovery but he's strong.

This same thing happened to my mother about ten years ago! It wa scary as all get out while they were trying to figure out what was going on. They onlyl figured it out with her after doing emergency exploratory surgery. She has a giant scare since they cut her wide open to acutally flush her out but in the end it all turned out fine! I will be keeping you bith in my thoughts!

OMG how terrifying this must have all been for you! Thank heavens it turned out to be something the doctors must understand and know about, although I know when someone's body starts really malfunctioning, nothing is easy or simple.

I know I'm a complete stranger, but : ... my best friend/SIL was in ICU this winter for three weeks, in a coma for two of them, and I know first-hand how much it derails you. I'm so glad that people around you are looking after you.

He must be one tough guy if he didn't complain about his appendix bursting! I'm so glad they figured out what's wrong and have a course of treatment for him.

My best friend in high school had this very same thing happen to her.. except she was doubled over in pain so she wasn't as tough as your dh! She's got a rather large scar as well but that's because they had to go in there quite a few times because they didn't get it all out at first. I'm so glad they figured out what was going on and they are able to treat it.. while it won't be easy at least you have some answers. I will continue to send healing thoughts his way and yours.. take care of yourself.

I'm so glad that you have some answers. I just cannot believe that he didn't feel pain from the burst appendix!!! What a high pain threshold! I really hope that he has a speedy recovery so that you two can get back to enjoying this exciting time together. Take care of yourself.

Wow, Jo. I'm so glad they've figured out what's going on. Praying that the surgery is successful, and for a speedy recovery. My DH had his apdx out when MT was 6 weeks old, it was quite a ride for us all. And fwiw, dh complained about "mild muscle pain" for a day or two, and the surgeon told me that most men with an appendix "in that state" would be doubled over, screaming in pain. So apparently not everyone handles it the same way.

Please let us know everything is ok!
