Okay, so you inspired me to make dd a dress

I whipped this up yesterday and I'm pretty happy with it. I scored some sweet vintage-looking buttons at an awesome local fabric shop. The patchwork is sewn, overcasted, and then topstiched. Making the patchwork made me really miss my old, dead Bernina serger....I really NEED a new one. I put a facing in but I can't decide to topstich it down at the arms and neckline. What'd ya think...to topstich or not to topstich?

The project for today is making Lib a dipe cover to match.

Happy sewing!!

That is so beautiful! I think it would add a nice touch to topstitch the neck and armholes but it's just perfect as it is, too.

ohhhhhhhh so cute!!!! it doesnt NEED the top stitching to be a beautiful/complete outfit but - it sure would add a sweet touch

Love it! So pretty!

I think the topstitching would be nice but it's certainly not essential.

That's Gorgeous. I agree, it looks great the way it is, but a cute designed topstitch would be sweet too!

!Warning! *Stupid question alert*

Did you sew the peices together then cut out the shape of the dress? Or sew them together in the shape of the dress? I hope that makes sense....

That is super cute. I may just have to give something like that a try rather than nothing but smock tops.

Not a stupid question at all...I actually comtemplated doing it both ways but ended up sewing the patchwork and then cutting the dress front from it. I'm so glad I triple-stitched the seams so when I cut it the seams didn't unravel. I'm making another for a friend right now so I may try the other way just to see how it goes.

Thanks for the compliments, y'all!!

Adorable! I'm gettin antsy to go pick up some spring fabric to make a dress too! Did you design the pattern yourself? That is sooo cute, I think I'm going to copy you!

It is loosley based on New Look 6576. I tweaked the facing a bit.
