Dh and I saw this last night and it was excellent. (NOT FOR KIDS!!! NOT FOR KIDS!!!)

If you like action-fighting movies you'll love it.

If you are squemish about violence you might not enjoy it.

300

We were lucky to get a nanny Friday night and we went to see "300". The movie was beautifully shot and visually very appealing. The story was "eh" and obviously fantasized version, since there was no monsters in reality.

I was shocked to see small toddlers in the audience to see a bloody movie like that. Who let them in the theater? I don't want to judge, because not everyone has a chance to get a nanny, but HELLO, this movie was to gruesome for me, how would a child tolerate it?

I want to see this so badly because Gerard Butler is one of my favorites (smoking hotness ). My baby is too small so I'll probably have to wait. But.. that is nuts to bring a toddler to a violent movie, when I go to movies & see little kids & babies it just really bothers me.

I haven't seen the movie as it is totally not my style, but my 15 yr old Ds did recently see it and he absolutely loved it. He talked forever of the beautiful style it was shot in, the dancing scene, the humor they managed to sneak in, and so on. I just wanted to share his thoughts on it.

I have this in my Netflix queue (don't know if I'm going to get a chance to see it in the theatre), I've heard good things about it and it broke some boxoffice records for opening in March, I believe

We just watched it on the weekend and I really enjoyed it.

It is NOT FOR CHILDREN.

It is very violent, very graphic.

But, I really loved the storyline, the casting, and the cinematography is just astounding. WOW. Very well done.

I don't want to give things away....

It's worth it just for the pecs and abs!

Trin.

I can't tell you how excited I am to see this movie!!!!

I honestly don't think you need to worry about giving things away with this movie. It's based on history and even though it might be inaccurate in points, it's going to end the way it really ended, ya know?

This comes out in two weeks and just so happens to premiere on our weekly date night. I'm buying tickets!!!!

LOL I just saw this thread after responding on the other one. Maybe the mods can combine them?

I'm VERY excited about seeing this movie. I love the way cinematography keeps changing and progressing. It's awesome!

Oh Bless you,

One of the best lines (and line from historical event) is in the trailer anyways.

I hadn't actually read this particular graphic novel nor had I seen the trailers. I only went to see it because it has Frank Miller's name on it and I enjoy his work.

So from this information can you imagine my shock when I saw the Spartan costumes. "AH! ZOMG! What are they wearing!!?!?!??!"

After a few moments I settled down and enjoyed the irony of men getting costume robbed for a change (and the view!

My teenage sons are begging to see this movie (13 and almost 15). What do you think, if we go with them?

Nope.

If I were you I would see it first then decide based on their maturity. It has violence, nudity and some VERY sexually suggestive scenes (with nudity)

No way am I gonna say "Oh it will probably be ok" and then get reamed.

You might be able to find the graphic novel at a book store, they tend to use his panels a lot when actually planning the scenes so there will be some similarities between the graphic novel and the movie. So that might be a way to get a bit of an idea.

Absolutely! My Dh took my 15 year old Ds to see it and he absolutely loved it! It's now one of my son's fave movies.

Ds said the nudity and sexuality are minimal in his opinion, and much less than he was expecting, and there was a dancing scene that he thought was incredibly beautiful.

: DH and I just saw this yesterday (first date for us since DD's birth, believe me- it was a much needed break!) and while I thought it was great, one of the first things we were talking about was how inappropriate it was for the handful of kids in there. It's weird b/c I'm not that sheltered, I'll watch pretty much anything, though I don't really like horror anymore, but there's no way I'd let my kids watch this until they were high school age, and even then I'd think long and hard. I think there are reasons for ratings to be set at what they're at. You know, I thought it was beautifully stylized and even with it's extreme violence I thought it was more beautiful than gory, but I think that there's such a desensitization of kids to violence and sexuality now. I'd rather preserve my kids innocence for as long as I can, I think they'll watch things like this eventually, but while they're my children, living with me, my decisions are going to be biased towards more modest films. Personally, I just can't condone junior high age kids watching scantily clad women gyrating against each other sexually, there's no need for me to stimulate already crazy hormones.:

It's so interesting to me that folks are so reluctant to let their older children see this movie. My 15.5 year old Ds came home full of discussion on how beautifully it was shot, the colors, the beauty and sensuality involved in a dancing scene, how well the music worked in places, and etc. I loved seeing him so pleased and satisfied with a movie!

Different strokes for different folks and all that, no disrespect, but I have a wee bit of trouble wrapping my head around not letting a high schooler see a film.

I think what I was trying to say before and probably didn't get across very well was that it depends on the maturity not just the age. I unfortunately know way too many teenage boys who aren't mature enough to see this movie, and honestly, who know's what I'll do or think when my 3 year old is in his teens. I agree that it was amazingly beautiful, just violently so.

Like others said it depends on maturity.

Some 15 year olds I would say go for it, others I wouldn't recommend it.
