Need advice on Endocrinologist and next step!

To recap my situation....I'm 22 and have PCOS. I have every single symptom on the list. I struggled for several years to get a diagnosis. I have one now but feel like my current Dr is not doing all he can.

It was suggested to me to go straight to finding a reproductive endocrinologist instead of an OBGYN. The OB I'm seeing comes highly recommended. My trouble with him is I don't feel he is very aggressive. I've been on 500 mg of metformin since the beginning of January. I thought things might be changing because my last period was so "short". I had a very long period in Nov and the beginning of Dec. I was on my period from Feb. 2 - Feb. 8. Breakthrough bleeding on the 10th, 21st, and 22nd. So obviously the metformin has not encouraged a normal cycle length and the short period could have been a fluke.

So my questions are...What do I do? Should I stick with the OBGYN for a bit longer? How do I go about finding an endo? What kind of questions do I ask at the appt.? Thanks in advance!

I am currently reading "It's My Ovaries, Stupid!", by Dr. Vliet. Just based on what I was reading last night, I would recommend seeing an RE. There are SO MANY hormone connections going on, especially with PCOS. Unless they address getting those in balance, you won't really be able to address all the symptoms you're dealing with.

I highly recommend you check this book out (I got mine from my library). It will give you lists of hormone levels to test for. If you like your OB, bring in this book to show him and ask for those specific tests.

Dr. Vliet also wrote "Screaming to Be Heard", another FANTASTIC book about women's health and our complex hormone systems.
