Fenugreek questions - it helps, but...

Thread Starter
I've taken fenugreek a couple times now for dwindling pumping supply (I used to have a good stash in the freezer, not anymore). Before when I quit taking it, I was good for a while and now had to start taking it again recently about 3-4 weeks ago. I stopped taking it this weekend to see what happened and I noticed right away today I did not get as much out. I pump 45 min. a day at work.

1. Does the body get "used" to fenugreek, in other words, do you need to keep increasing dosage? Before I took 3 pills 3 times a day for total of 9 but had to up it to 4 pills this last time (620mg each).

2. Should I be able to quit taking it after a certain period of time or am I going to have to take it every day for as long as I'm pumping? That stuff is not cheap.

Please don't tell me to eat oatmeal, it makes me gag.
thanks!

my body did seem to adjust to the fenugreek and it just didnt do anything after a while. my dosage (from my pedi) was 12 pills in one dose and then 2-3pills 3x a day after until supply went up.

Oatmeal used to make me gag too! But I found that if I grind it into a powder somehow I can eat it like that (with bananas). I put it off for so long but it did help

good luck

Ideally, we would take the fenugreek until out supply was up, and than stop and it would stay up. This is what is supposed to happen, but it has not been my experience. I take 15 per day (!) It helps, and I see a decrease in supply when I don't take them. Also, water consumption is not "supposed" to make a difference, but it does for me. I make sure I drink my 8 glasses.

I read that taking blessed thistle with fenugreek can make a big difference, so that's what I've been doing. 3 pills 3x per day, each.

Oatmeal makes me gag too, but not in cookies, or granola bars, and those COUNT OP, so don't condemn yourself to regular oatmeal. Ugh. I have made no bake oatmeal cookies and various granola bars and it does seem to make a difference.

I don't know about the body getting used to fenugreek, but you can also get it in tincture form which IMO is easier to take than the pills.

You can buy it online for a lot cheaper, maybe fill your own

You can buy it powdered or whole, and encapsulate it yourself. . . .not too $$$ this way. . . .
