Non Sterotypical Multi-cultural Books

I need websites/recommendations of books for 2-5 year olds that are non-stereotypical and multi-cultural. I work in a non-profit preschool and our book diversity sucks and the director is looking to change it. So spam me with what you got!

Thanks,
Carrie

One of our fave books has always been Jingle Dancer by Cynthia L. Smith. It's great for non-Aborginal classrooms because, unlike so many kids books with Aboriginal characters, the characters are urban women still connected to their culture. I found many books in classrooms when I was working in the school system that were just full of pseduo-Aboriginal spirituality and back to nature, eco-warrior stuff. But the reality is the fastest growing Aboriginal populations in Canada (where I am) are urban and off reserve.

Just remembered more, before I head to bed.

People by Peter Spier.

Let's Talk About Race by Julius Lester is fantastic and we started reading to DS at around 4.

Just Us Women is great for diversity in gender, race and inter-generational and non-nuclear family relationships. It's about a car trip a young girl and her aunt take together.

So Much by Trish Cooke has a great rythm for reading aloud and is so full of big, extended family love.

Heather Has Two Mommies by Leslea Newman is a classic.

The Family Book by Todd Parr is very colourful (all his books are) and discusses the whole variety of families which exist.

I found a copy of The Paper Boy at a church fair and bought it for my 2 yo niece. It is about a young boy who happens to be African American, and it shows him waking up before the dawn to go out with his dog and deliver papers on his bike while his family and the neighborhood sleep. They drawings are soft and beautiful and the text is just lovely. It is one of my nieces favorite books.
