sewing machine stitch question

i'm such a newbie!

i was working with 300wt fleece and the sewing machine just did not want to do a straight stitch...can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong? (i figure it has to do with the tension, width, or length. or a combo of them all!)

Older/better machines let you adjust presser foot preasure. If you can I'd let that up a little. I always do a few test seams on scraps to check tension, If it is off you will see the thread being pulled either from the back to the front (too tight) or from the front to the back (too loose.)


BTW In general it is better to use a zigzag on fleece so it can stretch. You only want to use a straight stitch if you want to prevent stretching.

ETA: I reread your post, is the problem that it is zigzaging? That means the stitch width isn't set to zero.
