advised to skip a cycle

UGH! The Dr. advised me to skip this cycle due to cysts on my ovaries. I plan on skipping all the fertilizer etc, but he suggested we can certainly try the old fashioned way. Anyone have experience with this? He expects they will disappear after this cycle, but what if they don't??? UGH!

I'm just sad to have another road block in the way. The next best thing to getting a BFN is getting AF so you can get started on the next cycle! Now here we have to wait some more

He started talking about an RE etc and taking "the next step", which I believe with be IVF. Currently we have 2 more cycles of IUI to try out.

We're in the same boat. They suggested we wait a few months until the cysts subside and give the met a chance to work before I try clomid again. And since we're not doing clomid, they don't want to even talk iui until later. I HATE ALL THIS. It is SO frustrating, watching the calendar and knowing there's nothing I can do to speed this process along any more than I'm already doing. I'm sorry you're stuck in this limbo, too.

I chose to skip some cycles during the various treatments for my own health and sanity. Sometimes you have to step back and not be a fertility patient for a month or so. All of that poking and prodding isn't good for your mind/spirit for very long. You start to think of yourself as a broken, useless thing instead of the complete and whole individual that you are, because so much of what you do during a fertility treatment reduces you to INFERTILE PATIENT.

So while I don't know about cysts coming or going, I can say that taking a cycle off can be good anyway, assuming there isn't a huge time pressure issue (ie age).

We started trying in Sept w/ just clomid no IUI, then in Oct & Nov we did clomid + IUI. Skipped Dec & Jan (our choice) and then in Feb did clomid, trigger shot & IUI. So I was all geared up to do 3 full cycles after taking a couple off and here we have to wait. Age isn't too bad, but I'll be 36 in June. Older than I wanted to be having another child, but certainly still a few fertile years ahead of us (I hope).

Just a frustrating place to be in I guess

Sorry for the frustration! I'm in your boat too- have to wait to start my Clomid for another month and as you know, when you're ttc, every month seems like an eternity! Hang in there!

Well, skipping a cycle is a smart move. I'd rather wait a month, then have one of my ovaries become non-existant. I know how hard it is though.

Just a piece of advice... I did infertility treatment with my OB... 3 years later (after switching OBs, taking time off, getting tests)... I went to an RE and 2 cycles... I was pregnant. I had to go back to get pregnant a 2nd time (I'm hoping it'll be this cycle!), I went straight to the RE. It's not safe to take Clomid for longer than 6 months and personally, the RE is just more knowledgeable and can offer injectible medications which treat your follies MUCH better than Clomid. You probably won't have to go straight to IVF- a good RE will try a few cycles on HIS medication plans, along with an IUI and you'd probably have a much different experience. I wouldn't mess around with an OB.., especially at your age... no disrespect I'm just trying to be honest. I hate to see women waste their time and their frustration on an OB treating IF. They just don't have the schooling.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice. It's so tough to understand all this stuff! With my first dd we did clomid + IUI and it worked on the first try. So this month after month of no results is new and frustrating to me! My OB did suggest an RE during the ultrasound last week, so I'm heading there SOON! And I think I'll go one more cycle this way and ask to be referred ASAP rather than wait 3 cycles.

Any info is helpful and I took no offense to your post at all. Thanks again!
