I'm now 20 weeks but here is a photo from 18+ weeks. I'm not a huge fan of the photo. The clothes are bigger than me but that won't be for long

I'm so glad to see the variety, thank you for the latest posts! I'm on the thin side, and definitely out of my own clothes by now (19 weeks), but people still say to me "you can't be pregnant, no way can you be pregnant, let alone almost half-way!" It's so demoralizing, and makes me all the more paranoid that something's wrong. I've heard the heartbeat, just a few weeks ago, my clothes are really too small, I've gained some weight, but... I'm just glad to see that other people at the 18, 19, 20 week mark are only about as big as me. Off to take my own photo now to share....

I hear you jdejong. They mean well, but it can be upsetting. At 20 weeks I haven't gained a pound. I know there's something in there though, because it keeps kicking me!

Word up, Mama!! Same here!

And to the mamas who aren't showing/still look skinny... I think most people are pretty impressed w/some women's ability to hide their pg's. At least that's the way it seems to somebody who shows very early. Maybe they're just trying to flatter you. I'm sure it's annoying, tho.

People still think I'm skinny but I don't think so. I've gained some weight in other areas so maybe that's why my belly isn't quite as big. I know that in my regular clothes I look like they are too small but in maternity clothes I definately look pg. I'm hoping my belly pops soon and people won't have to guess if I'm pg. I guess I don't mind not being big right away as I know I still have 21 weeks until I'm due and I know it will get plenty big enough by then!

I also wanted to say that to mamas with 'smaller' bellies, some of us mamas with 'bigger' bellies have extra padding to make the belly bigger. If my body fat percentage was less, my belly would be much smaller; there is a layer of fat on larger mamas that contributes to a larger belly, but that's not all baby by any means!

Finally, I am posting my belly pic. This is yesterday at 19 weeks.

I second the good-ness of seeing the variety. The 'you're too small' thing goes the other way too, though; it also gets old hearing 'you must be having twins!' 'you're the size i was when i delivered!' 'you're huge!' all the time.

A funny story. I gained 60 lb with my first pregnancy, with my son. I showed (strangers coming up & commenting) at 8 weeks, and had a HUGE belly all throughout. This pregnancy, I 'decided' I wouldn't gain as much weight and therefore would have less belly, and less back pain, and more just get around more easily. Well, I have gained less than 2 pounds (I'm 16 weeks) and my belly is STILL, HUGE. Back pain, trying hard not to waddle, 'big' comments all the time. Funny how that works!
That's funny. I think that every woman's body grows a baby in a different way. Our culture has so many stigmas about allowing that matronly pregnant body. In ancient cultures it was that form that was worshipped rather than the skinny twig models like the Olsen twins.

Thanks for empathizing, Speedfunk! I'm also pretty tall (5'10"), but have what I thought was a very short torso, so assumed I'd show faster than I am.

So another worry...At my 20-week appointment next week, the midwife will start measuring me. When I'm standing and sitting, I have an obvious bump, but when I lay down, I still have a nearly-flat abdomen/belly. What is she going to measure? I can't help but fear she'll peg me as not big enough for 20 weeks. Anyone else have this happen and turn out okay?
KarenMT, I used to feel the same way b/c my body is more goddess shaped but then I listened to my "Skinny-twig" friends and they suffered some big time humiliation too. People make nasty comments about anorexia, called beanpole, flat-chested, etc. Some people are just skinny and it doesn't help a curvy woman's plea to diss another's bodies type.

Jdejong, she is going to measure the size of your uterus which has no baring on how "big" you look. Don't worry she will find exactly what she needs to find. I am 18 weeks and am not really showing at all.
Flowers, so if I can feel my uterus right about at my naval (where I understand it should be at 20 weeks), I should be good then, right? I'm just paranoid, I know...
here's me at 19 and a half weeks...or 20 weeks if you go by the size of the babe... which i don't. i'm like a clock, and i know when everything happened!

anyway! 19 and a half weeks:
