I am new at this so bear with me. i want to start working on a diaper stash...i have found a great pattern i love, and am pretty confident i can do this. BUT i cant figure out where to get PUL from. it seems nowhere around me carries it, can it only be bought online? where is a good place to get a good deal?

do i really need to use it? is there something else waterproof that i can use instead? i am making AIO's and fitted pockets.

I'm in the same boat. I like to buy my fabric in real stores, so I can see and feel it. I went to Hobby Lobby and asked about PUL and they looked at me like I was crazy.

Do any stores stock it, or must it be ordered?

I don't think you can find it retail. Check the diaper supply sticky at the beginning of the forum for websites. I got mine through a cloth diaper supply coop but if I needed it quickly I'd probably try sewzannes.com or the diapershop.com I haven't bought anything from there but have read good things.

There is a place that you can send your own fabric to have it "turned into" PUL but I know they have a minimum amount. I am sure someone else on the forum knows more than me.

Good luck!

If you really want PUL, I've ordered some touchtape from diapershop.com, so I know they're good about shipping. That's the only thing I've ordered online, though, 'cause it's way more expensive buying it at the store. If you wanted to look at other options for fabric, though, you could try a water resistant fleece (such as polar fleece, I've also heard good things about Joann's No Pill fleece and Alpine fleece). You just might want to double layer it to be absolutely sure. Beyond that, I really don't know. I'm new to CD'ing, so I'm definetely no expert! HTH.

I've used the Joanns & Hancocks fleece, and you are not going to get as great of a barrier. It is really best to use PUL or Malden Mills fleece. Those are the only ones that are really going to give you security when out and about. At home, we use the JA or Hancocks fleece pockets all the time. You do have to watch them carefully though. Ds can soak through the pocket with liners and the couch/floor in no time flat if we didn't force him to take off the diaper and go to the potty.

Unfortunately, you can pretty much only get PUL or Malden Mills online. Walk into any local fabric store, and they will have no idea what you are talking about at all! I have had really good luck ordering diapering supplies online (the same can't be said for sewing supplies...different story). www.diapercuts.com also has pul and malden mills and tons of other stuff. I prefer the solids to the prints just in terms of holding up longer.

I, too, am a coop girl! I get my PUL from coops, but you have to wait months and months for it. You get a better price (usually save $2-3/yard), but it takes forever to get to you. If you need it sooner, order from any of the above companies with ease. Check the feedback if you are worried about it.

I've bought some at Wazoodle.com. I haven't sewn with it yet but it's very nice.

I like the PUL from diapershop.com It is 1-mil, so it is thinner and softer. 2-mil is stiffer and thicker. The only downside is 1-mil is harder to sew because it moves around more. I would avoid PUL prints, they have ALWAYS wicked for us.

I ordered lots of facric including PUL from diapercuts and I really like their website. I received my order fairly quick too. I ordered a pring PUL and it works great in the cover I made. I can't remember if it was 1 or 2 mil though.

I bought the first time from diapercuts.com but now buy from www.acutabovefabrics.com . I like their selection of printed PUL and I always find good stuff in their bargain bin and diaper sized cuts. The diaper sized cuts are just enough PUL for one pocket dipe or cover for around $3. Then I buy a yard of microfleece for the inners or for cover outers. I find I waste less fabric this way. It does make diaper making a bit more expensive but it
s still a bargain compared to buying one pocket for $20 (this way is about $28 for six pockets!).

In Canada: www.wazoodle.com

Sometimes people sell it here on the Trading Post (usually the diaper TP). That's a good way to get a small amount to try it out.
