Anyone make their own mama cloth?

I recently had a pair of flannel jammie pants bite the bullet and I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to try my hand at some mama cloth. I figure I'd just rough-hand the pattern, use one of my regular pads as a guide (I saw a link on MDC once before to a website that had a good pattern but I can't for the life of me find it again), but what do I use for the insert? Layers of flannel or something else?

Okay, when I first posted this it make perfect sense to put it in the sewing forum - gotta sew the pads, right? But now it's looking kinda out of place so if someone thinks it would fit better in a different forum just let me know and I'll repost it

These are my favorites for patterns

For the inserts I use layers of fleece (from the cheapie $4 blakets from big lots type stores) and layers of old towel. I find 1 layer of each makes a good light-medium day pad, and 2 layers of fleece, with a layer of towel in between makes a good medium-heavy day pad.

You can use lots of things for the absorbent layers for your pads! Layers of flannel work fine, but don't always wash up the cleanest. Cutting up an old towel is good, too - 2 layers if it's thick terry, 3-4 if it's the thinner stuff.

I use a cotton quilt batting called Warm & Natural for mine - 1 layer for liners, 2 layers for mini, 3 layers for regular & super, and 4 layers for postpartum/overnight. It washes cleanly (I cut open an old one I had been using for a few years, just to see. There weren't even any stains on the batting!), and is fairly easy to find.

I use 5 layers of flannel for day pads and 7 for postpartum/overnight. I've also have a pad made using the warm & natural batting and that also works very nicely.
