So after over a year of planning and paperwork with the Landmarks dept. in NYC (if you can help it, never ever ever buy property in a landmarked building in NY... they only had to approve opening 1 bricked up window, in other words, returning the place closer to its origins, not doing anything wild, and it took them a year to approve it.)...

We moved out to temporary digs on Tuesday, donated/trashed bags and bags of clothes, paperwork, miscellaneous stuff, and yesterday the contactors started work in our apartment! It'll be a two bedroom and decent storage when it's done, and it's a studio now, so I can't wait!!! Oh yeah, and all but one room is unpacked in the short term apartment too.

Just wanted to celebrate!

Woo hoo!

For what its worth my brother rennovated his apartment in boston, took it from a one bedroom to a two bedroom by being creative with the space, tearing down and moving walls, etc. It wasn't landmarked or anything, but because of the old buildings, the city required he have structural engineers approve everything and that took forever too.
