ok do i have this right?

i want to make some dipes this weekend, and i tried experimenting tonight w/ the pattern i have, and love the look, just want to make sure i have the fabrics right. (dont have the velcro on yet to test it out)

the outside layer is made from a heavier fleece blanket, the soaker is sewn in (but i may work with this and just make pockets) it is made of an old towel, 4 layers, and the inside liner is an old recieving blanket. im not sure what material it is, it is pretty soft, and sucks moisture up like crazy. i am going to buy some fabric tomorrow...can i get away with just getting microfleece/or flannel for the inside, and heavy fleece for the outside? i have plenty of old towels i was going to use for soakers...does this sound like it will be absorbent enough and not leak w/ out a cover?

I always use a cover. I think that it needs to be MM fleece for the outside to make it waterproof.

You can use any cheaper fleece (Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Joanns, etc.). I do a "blow test". If I can easily blow through the fleece then it is less resistant to wicking, if there is some resistance it will work great. The faux minkee from Joann's and Hancocks Fabric makes the best outside of a pocket that is bulletproof.

Just remember that most fleece (even the expensive MM) will eventually get compression wicking if the inside diaper is soaked or baby is sitting somewhere for hours. But the benefit of fleece is that you do get air exchange (unlike PUL) so it is cooler in summer.

I have made a leakproof fairly thin pocket with an outer of cheap Joann's fleece and an inner of cheap Joann's microfleece. Nothing got through that sucker, it worked as good as PUL!

thanks! i actually made a couple that way yesterday, outer of JA's alpine fleece, and inner of JA"s microfleece. but , i think i screwed up because i did double layers of both, thinking that it would help not leak, it seems kind of thick though with the insert . maybe that is actually what is too thick and not the diaper. I tried it out on Ds for naptime, and he slept 4 hrs in it no problem....and it is SUPER soft.
