Bit open again :(

My 11.5 mo old baby bites. If I yelp he laughs. If I set him down he cries until I pick him up to nurse again and then he bites again. I have tried pulling him into me, crying out, ignoring it, putting him down, giving him something else to chew on, talking to him and telling him it hurts when he uses his teeth ( I know its a stretch but it couldnt hurt), giving him a bottle, a teether, a washcloth, teething tablets, etc. Today he got me good again and caught right under the nipple and made me bleed. When he does this it takes forever for it to heal and it hurts so bad to nurse like that. For whatever reason my nipple dermatitis is really inflamed right now so nursing hurts anyways. I am so ready to quit but he refuses to drink anything through a bottle or sippy. Well he'll drink it then happily spit it out all over the place. I dread nursing. It is not a bonding activity, if anything it makes me very resentful. I want to let him wean himself but I cannot see doing this another month let alone year or two. Any other suggestions?

((Heather)) ((Heather's Boo-boos))

I hope someone has advice for you--mine quit biting when I stopped the nursing session as a consequence.

I feel your pain mama. I am going through the same thing with my little one. Once I figure out what works for him...I will get back to you!!! Good Luck!!!

Heather....must be something developmental. I notice our babes were born on the same day....ds is going through the same thing right now. He's only nursing 2 times in a 24 hour period and just biting me every other time I offer. This is really stressful, isn't it? Who would have ever thought something like this could really effect your happiness eh?

How's it going? I think you just really need to be consistant. My ds had a biting phase when he got his first teeth but that was really short and resolved by me just ending the nursing session and saying "no biting"

He recently had another bite-fest at 2 years old! He would be nursing and then all of a sudden pull back and chomp down with utmost glee! It was sooooooo painful, and he ended up making a gash under my left nipple. It hurt too much to nurese him and before it healed he would just open it up again. I had to pump on that side and not nurse for almost 4 days, then I slowly let him nurse in the fotball hold for a few minutes. After about a week, everything is fine and he hasn't bitten again.

I figured out his triggers though: he always "acted up" at the breast when daddy got home in the evening and I needed to get work done or we wanted to watch something on t.v. We stopped watching t.v. and tried to make our evenings more calm and focus more on him.

I'm sure your kiddo will grow out of this phase. HTH!

Oh, it is so freakin' frustrating. Like I said, he'll only nurse at night. He went today (second day in a row) without nursing all day. I'd offer him my breast, and he'd literally look at it and laugh. Then, if he did latch on, he'd take like 5 sucks and bite me....not super hard, but enough that I'd have to disconnect him w/my finger and end the session.

I hate giving him bm out of a bottle. And I take it really personally when he takes the bottle of sippy cup with bm that I pumped and throws it on the floor! LOL

I'm finding it amazing how on edge I feel the last 2 days. I haven't been getting my happy hormone doses that I usually get from nursing him. I noticed this afternoon that he does have 2 teeth coming down. Looks like they are a ways off from eruption though. I hope this strike doesn't last too much longer. I don't want to have supply issues.
