3.5 y/o DD peeing in her bedroom!!!

This is absolutely disgusting, I still can't believe she is really doing this. Animals pee where they aren't supposed to... but KIDS??? :

The last week (almost two wks now) I've been finding soaked pants and underwear or just puddles of pee in DD's bedroom. She and older 6.5 y/o DD share a room. Thankfully the floor is linoleum.

The first few times when I found the wet panties and pants I just thought maybe she couldn't get to the toilet in time since she's occasionally had "couldn't get to the toilet in time" accidents, I didn't say anything. Then I started asking her why she peed on the floor and she would say I don't know. I would of course tell her we don't pee on the floor we pee in the potty and leave it at that. The last few days it has been a daily occurence and today she's peed in there TWICE! I'm starting to get really pissed off (no pun intended) this is absolutely absurd.

What do I do? She's been potty learned for a year and a half!

She has regressed. There are any number of possible reasons for it. But it does happen. Have there been any significant changes in her life lately? Has she been working on any other significant milestones?

I would stay on top of her and watch her constantly -- remind her to use the potty frequently and walk her there if you need to. I would also involve her in cleaning up the messes (matter-of-factly, without attaching shame.)

She didn't even do this when she was potty learning, she's never done it on purpose. She already regressed into wetting the bed every night when her baby sister was born and hasn't stopped since. No significant changes. The baby sister is a year old so it isn't that. No milestones that I know of. She has gotten a real ATTITUDE lately that I've been chosing to ignore.

I do give her a towel and soapy rag to help me clean it up.

I'll keep asking her if she has to go. Maybe keep the door shut so she has to stop and open it to go in there.

Ewww it just grosses me out so much. Of course there is ALWAYS books and toys on the floor that I don't want ruined, and of course clothes too which just makes even more laundry than our family of 5 already does.

I can understand being grossed out. I would stop asking her if she needs to go, and just start telling her that it is "time to go." And I'm not sure I'd let her be alone in her room for awhile.

My almost 4 yo ds, just last week, peed on the floor. Once in his room, and once in our living room. He's been completely potty trained since he was 2.5, and he has a 18 month old brother, so no regression issues now. I honestly don't know why he did it. He told me he couldn't hold it. To me that means he was so busy playing that he just waited too long, and truly couldn't hold it. Or he might have a UTI, and he also couldn't hold it. Since it's only happened twice, I haven't made a big deal out of it. I just have a bottle of vinegar and water that cleans it up just fine. I wouldn't make a big deal about it. Have you considered the possiblility of a UTI?

I would take her to the doctor. There can be medical reason bladder infections and even constipation can cause this.

Could she be peeing in her sleep? I had a roommate in college who would sleep walk out of bed and pee in the corner of the room or behind the door or whatever. It was terribly strange (and very embarrasing for her) but I've actually heard this happening to a handful of people. They sleep walk and think they're acutally going to the bathroom. Just a thought...

Good luck.

That was me as a kid.

Another thought, could you put a potty in her room? Sometimes my DD will take her potty out of the closet and want to pee on it in different rooms. it's better than cleaning up a mess!

I second seeing a doctor. Also I remember at least one occasion when I did the walk around thing and then peed in the corner of my bed! I really thought I had walked into the bathroom.

Maybe you should have her see a doctor.
A friend's little girl did that at two or three. I think she just grew out of it.

No she does it during the day. She wears a diaper at night for the bedwetting.

My oldest when she was 6 did it.

After a good talking to she stopped.

Have no clue what provoked her to do it.

Not an option. To me that is just reinforcing the behavior that is NOT acceptable. We have a toilet that we all use and is the same one she preferred to her own little one when she was potty learning.

That thought did cross my mind. She isn't constipated though cuz she asked me to wipe her after all her BMs and she never misses a day.

could be food sensitivity?

I'd definitely have her checked out medically- it could be a UTI or something. That really sounds like the most logical explanation since this started a couple of weeks ago and has been pretty consistant since then. Frequent urination (which can lead to accidents) can be a sign of a food or environmental allergy or intolerance.

You said that the baby is a year old and therefore not a "new" issue anymore, but remember that 1yos are quite different from newborns. Is the baby newly able to get into big sis' stuff?

She stopped just as misteriously as she started. May have been trying to get my attention and it didn't work the way she'd planned. :
