So, what are the chances I could be pg?

I don't think I am, but I am getting a wee bit terrified. Here's the deal: My periods have been about 21-24 days apart, pretty regularly. My last period started 2/22 and ended 2/28. It lasted a day or two longer than usual. Dh and I had sex on 2/28. It was unprotected, because I just kind of figured that I couldn't be fertile the day my period ended. And well, because, it had been a long time using condoms. Okay, it was a stupid decision, but there you have it.

So: Three weeks from 2/22 would have been 3/15. So today has been 24 days since my last period. I have absolutely no symptoms of being pregnant, but I have no symptoms of PMS either.

When I conceived with ds1 and ds2, I had a regular 28 day cycle, and conceived almost right smack dab in the middle of it

So, what are the odds that I was fertile the day my period ended?

Pretty darn low. Not impossible, but not too likely either.

That's what I'm thinking. Of course, I'm on day 25 and no sign of AF. I'm really getting nervous . . . My mother warned me that we were a fertile group of women!

I'd say the odds are pretty low (my guess is under 5%) if that was the only unprotected bd - good luck to you!

Time to break out the calculator

If you normally have a 21 day cycle, but have a 16 day LP (the time from ovulation until your period, it generally ranges from 10-16 days) you could have ovulated on cycle day 5. 16 days is on the long end of LP length, most people average 14 days, if you had a 14 day LP you would have ovulated on cd 7.

Now, if your cycle was going to be 24 days long this time around and you had a 14 day LP, you should have ovulated on CD10. So while you might not have been ovulating on the day you DTD, if you had fertile quality cervical mucous, the sperm can live for up to five days.

Then again, you could have had a delayed ovulation due to stress or illness and your period is just late because of that.

I'd probably pee on a stick for peace of mind.

After saying all that.. we DTD on ovulation day last month and I did not become pregnant. You have about a 20% chance each cycle with "well timed" intercourse

this may not make sence, and someone may tell me I'm wrong but heres my understanding...
If you were suppose to get your AF on the 15th, then you likely O'd on the 1st. Which is just the day after you dtd....
My understanding is that most (not all) woman get their period 14 days after ovulation, and the part that varys a womans cycle (21 to 28 days) is the time from start of period to next ovulation !!

did that make sence?
you could take a test...
good luck getting the answer you want!!

Do you have a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility? If not get one.

That said, I want to say she mentions that you need to consider yourself fertile during your period if it is longer than five days. Generally the first ten days of your cycle are nonfertile (including the days of your period) but longer periods can throw that off. I do not have my book with me so I cannot quote her 100% right now. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree though. Bust out your calculator and figure it in that sense. It'll eliminate any worry a lot more effectively than assuming you were fertile on period day 6.

The chances are low but possible. For the reasons already said and that many women ovulate more than once a cycle!! There was a study done from the University of British Columbia where women had ultrasounds done throughout their cycle and it showed many ovulated twice and some even three times! I may or may not did up the actual info. on this. I would definately test and with that short of a cycle there is a very small window of safe time. Protection would be in order for most of your cycle.
