I had to be talked out of taking DS to the airport.

my poor husband already thinks I'm about one notch to the left of being a carnival worker....but honestly, when I heard the Airbus was landing this morning at 9:30 at our airport I wanted to take DS... HE IS CRAZY about planes...

but my husband strongly reminded me there would be 10,000 people there and it is already congested area.. sigh.

if it was any other day than monday I would not have broken down.

I'm glad I'm not the only mom.....

Airplane buffs gathered near LAX in the pre-dawn hours to claim prime viewing spots for this morning's arrival of the world's- largest passenger jet.

The Airbus A380, making an inaugural test flight from the builder's headquarters in Toulouse, France, was not expected to arrive until about 9:30 a.m., but onlookers hoping to witness this moment in aviation history weren't taking any chances on missing it.

By 5 a.m., a parking garage and a strip of parkland adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport's northernmost runway, where the flying behemoth was to land, were already beginning to fill with spectators.

While the two Boeing veterans mulled over whether to try to find a better viewing location, a mother and son from Whittier arrived to claim a spot.

Marina Gomez, 38, and Justin Esparza, 10, stood atop an airport parking garage off Sepulveda Boulevard. The coveted structure filled steadily, with people on the ground calling up to those on the rooftop to ask how many parking spaces were left.

Justin and his mom secured an unobstructed view--a perfect end to their long buildup of Airbus anticipation.

"We've been watching it on National Geographic [cable television channel] for a year," Gomez said.

The mother and son, who planned to go to work and school late today, woke up at 3 a.m., fed the family dog, fish and turtle, bundled up in jackets, sweatshirts and beanies, and, by 5:50 a.m., were on the garage rooftop.

I suspect there are other moms here at MDC would have had to be talked out of the trip too!
