I keep reading that those suffering thrush should cut out sugar...but what does this mean, exactly?
Mt 3-week-old DS and I have been battling a painful thrush infection for just over a week. He is asymptomatic, and I have slighty red nipples and lots of deep breast pain (that comes and goes) and a little latch/nursing pain on one side. I've done 5 days of gentian violet, vinegar/water wash after every feeding, clotrimozole/micanozole application after every feeding, 250mg of GSE 3xdaily, and probiotics 2xdaily. I have a call in to the advice nurse...So far, things haven't changed much, so diet is my next step.
I get that I should stay away from processed sugars - cookies, candy, etc. But what about things like whole wheat bread? Brown rice? Quick cook oatmeal (NOT instant)? What about fruit - apples, bananas, blueberries? And why is dairy a no-no?
Is there a place I can get a definitive list?

: I decided to cut out the things they all had in common: sugar, dairy, mushrooms, and wheat. No fruit, except lemons, limes, grapefruit, and the occasional sour apple. I *occasionally* eat plain yogurt or kefir. I've been eating brown rice, quinoa, and red potatoes. No corn. I do eat these sprouted grain tortillas. The book that I've followed most closely is the Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook 2nd ed. I went the route of being really strict at first and then added a few things back in, sort of the reverse of what the PP said. I wanted results fast because I was in so much pain...but now I don't know if just cutting out sugar and dairy would have done the trick. Now I'm scared to eat like a normal person! On the plus side, at 3.5 months PP, I'm 13 pounds less than my pre-pregnancy weight. If you cut out dairy, be sure to add a calcium sup.
