4 month old hasn't gained weight

An online friend of mine IMed me this afternoon after her son's Dr appointment and said that he hadn't gained any weight and that he said maybe her milk is bad : (no! I'm NOT kidding!!!). I was napping and didn't get the IM till she had signed off.
I emailed her and suggested she nurse more, let him decide when to switch sides instead of her doing it, co-sleep, put some kind of cloth in his dipes so she knows how often he's REALLY wetting (she uses sposies), not to supplement (he seems to be on track with milestones) and to drink mire water and maybe have some real oatmeal- can't hurt right?
I don't know if he had grown length wise, but I assume so since she only mentioned weight.
What else is there? Am I missing anything? Was it ok to say not to supp? I'm very far from being a Dr lol
TIA :-)

I think you're right. If we can know all the benefits of breastfeeding how can a Dr. think that supplementing with formula is OK?

B/c some babies need more than what mom has, that's why drs think formula can be o.k. I'm using some formula now and my baby is finally thriving and growing like she should.

Anyway, you need a lot more info from her in order to help her. How long has it been since he gained or is no gain really just low weight gain? Babies should gain about 4ozs a week till about 5-6 mos. Is he gettong longer? Head bigger? How old is baby? How often is she nursing? How long each time? One side or 2? Has baby been sick? Has baby has regular weight checks? It's not right IMO to say yes she needs formula or no she doesn't at this point.

It wasn't so much the Dr thinking that formula was OK. It's more the Dr saying "maybe your milk is bad".
He's had very little gain since his last appointment (so in two months). He did grow 1.5 inches though. She didn't tell me head. He's wetting enough dipes, he's rolling around, trying to sit up, has tears, interacting etc... he takes both sides at a feeding and is on demand, no schedual.
He does have another check in two weeks. She's going to start taking that fegu... I can't remember how to spell it.
And he's 4 months old.
