wOOt! A girl, huh? Wicked cool. Little girls are so cute! They're way more fun to buy clothes for and dress up too! Ahem* Not that tomboys like myself are into that sort of thing...or anything.

Congrats are in order, though! We all knew you could do it! Okay, I was a little concerned you'd still have her in there ten years from now, but I got over it when the contractions were 2-3 minutes apart at your last update.

You did good mama, now get in here and give us our fix! You can't just leave a bunch of birth story junkies hanging you know! I might have to go read some hospital birth stories just to get by. :

Rest up and enjoy that baby, mama. Don't forget to sniff her constantly! Preferably after the poopy diapers get changed. Before you know it you'll be lamenting the days when you could still smell that new baby smell on her. They need to patent that smell and make it into an air freshener or something.

Ziva is finally here!

DH and I welcomed our daughter Ziva at 11:15pm April 27th! She was 4 FULL WEEKS past her due date! Ziva was 10 pounds, 1 ounch and 21 inches long. Her head was a whopping 13 3/4 around!

I started having regular contrax at midnight on Thursday. I was up all night with them. Friday morning I had some serious bloody show and the contrax got stronger and longer. By the time DH got home at about 4 they were getting painful. I labored all over the house for several hours and finally at about 8:30 pm my waters started to leak and finaly broke. My body started pushing at about 9 pm but the contrax died down and I had a hard time pushing Ziva out. The back labor got to be so bad that I felt completely drained. Ziva's head crowned at around 10:45 but with no contrax and after more than 20 hours of labor I couldn't get her out. DH called 911 and the operator coached us. DH had me get on my back and put his hands around Ziva's head to help her out. The paramedics arrived at about 11:05 and held my legs open and yelled for me to push. I could feel myself tearing and by now I was screaming like a banshee. Ziva finally came out in one big push. She wasn't breathing and the paramedics gave her oxygen. They immediately cut her cord : and started pushing on my tummy to get the placenta out. That sucked, but I delivered the placenta a few minutes later. We went to the hospital and Ziva was in perfect shape. I however have a 4th degree tear. The doctor said it looke dlike a bomb went off in my vagina. I had surgery and they kept us overnight.

DH was amazing! He was wonderful! He rubbed my back through ALL the labor and was really encouraging. He wiped my butt when I pooed during labor and came home and cleaned everything up when it was over. For someone who was initially skeptical of birthing at home he was fabulous!

Even though we ended up at the hospital, it was a great experience. We had our homebirth and when emergency arose we were able to get help quickly. In my mind, it worked out exactly as it was designed to. The paramedics were quick and efficient and although I didn't like that they cut the cord, forced the placenta out or kept Ziva away from me until we got in the ambulence- plus one of them had the nerve to say "Home delivery is for pizza only. Next time go to a hospital.," : -they get helped me find the strength to birth Ziva and gave her the help she needed after the birth.

We're struggling with nursing. While I was in surgery they gave Ziva a bottle and now she's not particularly into learning to nurse. To help, they gave me a plactic nipple thingamabobber to help coax my nipples out and now Ziva won't try nursing on the actual boob. We'll have to work on all this!

I'll post pics soon. Thanks for all the support!

Kristi

Rest up and stay in bed with Ziva to concentrate on nursing. I'm sorry they had rude comments for you, but I'm glad that it was a positive experience. Congratulations!

Congrats, Kristi!! I'm so glad to hear everything is OK and I hope you heal quickly. Ziva is an amazing name!!

Congrats!!!! I love the name Ziva - beautiful!!

We took my son to the hospital after he wsa born because he wasn't breathing very well and some NICU nurse made a comment to me like "I've never seen anything good come from a homebirth" to which I replied "that's cause most homebirths don't come to the hospital." Those kind of comments never make me waver in my love and belief in homebirth - I just feel bad for the people who make ignorant comments like that and don't know any better.

I'm so glad you are okay. But geez, that's aweful what the paramedics did and said to you. I was shocked and don't really don't know how to put this or how I feel about it other than well, I guess I know I'll just have to keep my resolve when the time comes. Pushing on the back is obviously the worst thing! Such a hard situation to keep the baby from being admitted if mom has to get help. That scares me. I'm not letting anyone call anyone until babe is out!!! And I guess I'll have to insist that he's not admitted and that no one leaves mine and babe's side. I hope the breastfeeding thing gets better. The bottle is always the downfall. It makes me so angry that the nurses do that!!! Why couldn't they have used a dropper or a tube if it couldn't wait???!!! Mad mad mad.
I've heard the nipple cover things are bad and will only excaserbate the nipple confusion. Maybe you're engorged and she's having a hard time latching on. Pump Pump and keep trying. Hot pads, relaxation, whatever to soften up your breasts so that she can latch on. I'm sure you already know this but was just throwing in some reminders because I'm so shocked and I feel your pain and despair in having to transport and having bf problems. I know it's so frustrating!
Hugs and Good luck and congrats.
Keep following your intuition. I'm glad you are okay dispite everything.
